Home Remedies for Salon Perfect Hair at Home

The harsh sun, the ocean air, the sticky peanut butter that gets stuck in your hair after your baby reaches for you in the middle of lunch; it’s no wonder your hair feels dry and damaged.

7 Home Remedies for Salon Perfect Hair | Stay At Home Mum

If you love the way your hair looks and feels after a trip to the hair salon, then you will love these inexpensive and easy home remedies for salon perfect hair. You don’t have to spend an hour at the salon or $100 on a treatment every time. In fact, many of these home hair care treatments can be found in your fridge or pantry!

1. Apple Cider Vinegar Cures an Itchy Scalp

Mix 1 cup of water to ½ cup apple cider vinegar and apply it to your hair after you have washed it. Leave it for ten minutes before rinsing it out. This is an easy little trick to add bounce and shine to your hair before a night out or a fun event.  Plus if you suffer from an itchy scalp in Winter, this will cure it!

2. Avocado Hair Mask

Avocado can be mixed with a number of additional ingredients in your fridge or you can use it on its own. Some of the mixtures you may want to try include avocado, honey and yoghurt or avocado, banana and almond oil. With both treatments, you simply massage into your head, cover for 30 minutes and rinse as normal.  This makes your hair lovely and shiny – and is gentle enough to use on childrens hair too!

3. Beer Rinse

Grab a small amount of hubby’s after-work beer and add it to a spray bottle. After you have a shower, spray the beer onto your hair and blow dry your hair. The heat from the blow dryer will eliminate the smell of stale beer but you will be left with shiny soft hair from the vitamin B in the beverage.  Beer works better than any professional hair shine spray on the market!

4. Use Eggs for Shiny Hair

Use egg as your base for a number of different hair-shining mixes. You can mix three eggs with olive oil and honey or you can try eggs with full fat yoghurt and a tablespoon of almond oil. Both of these mixtures will leave your hair feeling soft and shiny. Simply mix the ingredients together and cover with a shower cap for 30 minutes. Rinse and shampoo as normally.

5. Honey Hair Mask

Honey on its own can also work wonders on your hair and scalp. Simply apply half a cup of honey to your washed damp hair and massage. Put a shower cap on to seal in the solution and leave on for 20 minutes before rinsing.

6. Coconut Hot Oil Treatment

Hot oil treatments are popular in expensive hair salons but you can do them at home as well. All you need is natural oil (think coconut, castor, almond, corn or olive oil). Use one separately or if you have a few in the cupboard, mix them together. Heat the oil over low heat in the saucepan until it is warm but not too hot. Then massage the mixture into your hair and scalp and wrap your hair with a hot towel for 20 minutes before rinsing and washing as normal.

7. Mayonnaise for Softness and Shine

Full fat mayo may not be too good for your thighs but it can make your hair soft and shiny. You don’t have to mix mayo with anything just add to your hair, leave for 30 minutes and rinse off afterwards.

You can expect hair salon treatments to cost you around $30 per treatment and there are many hair masks and creams that you can purchase for around $20 to $50 a bottle. However, you may be surprised to learn that the all-natural foods will work just as good, if not better, without harming your wallet.
