So I’m starting to have a mild nervous breakdown over the fact my family are coming here this Christmas. Normally the kids and I make the 3 hr trek to Mum’s on Christmas day but as I’m pregnant this year my Mum, Dad and Sister are coming to us.

My Mum to put it nicely is obsessed about cleaning. She has the Windex in her hand the entire time when we visit. My darling Sister lives in SA so it’s just my parents at home now. For Mum coming to my house is like leaving a little bubble of bliss to come to where she needs a contamination suit. SIGH.

Don’t get me wrong I like my house neat and tide but having 8 of us here sometimes (okay most of the time) the skirting boards don’t get dusted and the fingerprints on the walls get overlooked. These are the things my dear Mother sees.

Now after much contemplation I decided burning the house down and starting from scratch probably isn’t the best way to deal with this issue…especially as Christmas is only 3 weeks away. If there was more time….maybe.

I decided breaking all the things that need doing down into rooms might make the task seem smaller so the kids and I took inventory room by room. I didn’t realise how much of the small stuff I had neglected working the hours I did for the past 2.5 yrs. Our list looks more like a fold-out bus schedule then a minor spruce up. I may be being a little picky with some of them like pulling out all the books to dust them but the curtains could really benefit from a good wash and doing the rugs while I’m there couldn’t hurt either.

My only issue is how do I fit all of it in with an active 2 year old and a host of other Christmas outings to attend? Easy….bribe the kids. I let the older ones write their names beside the jobs and I have negotiated a pay rate depending on the job. I mean this is why we have teenagers right?

Now all I have left to do is to motivate them to actually do it. It’s going to happen….shhh it is.

On that note I better go dig my cattle prod out the shed I have a feeling I may be needing it.
