10 Fun Water Play Activities

There’s no denying it it’s warm!

One of the best ways to cool off (besides cracking the air con) is to get into some water. However, if you’re tired of heading down to the local pool or are bored of jumping into your backyard paddling pool with the kids, then why not mix it up with some of these water-friendly activities that are free, fun and a fantastic way to keep cool!

1. Sprinkler

Instead of watering the grass, water the kids! Set up the sprinkler, put on their bathers and let them have fun running and jumping through the water.

2. Water Balloons

Okay, we cheated you do have to spend a little bit of money to get water balloons from the store, but after that, it’s free fun for all! There are so many different games you can play with water balloons. Simply fill them up with water and throw them at targets in the backyard, race them down your driveway or down your backyard slide or have a water balloon fight in the backyard.

3. Bubbles

You can buy bubble makers of all shapes and sizes these days from bubble guns to bubble lawn mowers, or you can make your own! Use an old bottle and add 750ml water, 250 ml dishwashing liquid and 300ml of glycerine.

4. Slip and Slides

There are slip and slides of all shapes and sizes sold at any toy store. However, if you don’t feel like forking out the money for a slip and slide, you can easily make your own with dish soap, a hose and some tarp from the shed. Simply place the tarp on the ground, add some dish soap and hose it down. Let the kids take turn running and sliding onto the tarp or simply let them crawl around and get soapy!

5. Cleaning the Car/Dog

This is one of the most fun chores kids can help you with. All you need to do is grab a few extra clothes and a large bucket of soap and it’s time to have some fun. Washing the car is a great way to keep cool and kids love ‘helping’ you out. This is also true with your dog just make sure you have something handy to wipe him off and tie him too if he doesn’t like getting a bath.
