How to guess your babys sex – guessing tends to be what a lot of prospective parents spend their time doing. You most likely have the option of finding out the sex of your bub at the second trimester ultrasound, which normally takes place during week 18 to 22 of your pregnancy. However, if you are not quite there yet and dying to know, then there are some indicators that can help you to guess!

How Are You Carrying?

It may be too early to tell but some people believe that you will be able to tell what you are having simply by how you are carrying. If the weight is all over and you are carrying high, then it’s a girl. If the weight is in the front and you are carrying low, then it’s a boy. However, when you are still in the first and second trimester, it’s often hard to tell.

What Do the Charts Say?

Have a look online at a Chinese Gender Chart. Legends claim that these have been used for over 700 years and are 90 percent accurate.  Based on the month of conception and the month of your birthday, you will be able to determine whether you are having a boy or a girl. It’s always fun to have a look and see…

What is Bub’s Heart Rate?

A theory suggests that boys and girls have different heart rates in the womb. It is suggested that a baby with a heartbeat of fewer than 140 beats per minutes is a boy while a baby with a heartbeat higher than 140 beats per minute will be a girl. If you have been lucky enough to hear bubs heartbeat during a dating scan or earlier scan, then you may be able to guess this way. However, keep in mind that experts suggest otherwise and claim there is actually no correlation between the gender of a baby and the heart rate.

What’s the Ring Say?

Another fun test is to dangle your wedding (or other) ring attached to a piece of thread on your belly. If you hold the ring over your belly while you are lying down, the ring will move, either back and forth (like a pendulum) or around in a circle. If the ring moves in a back and forth motion, then this indicates the baby will be a boy. If the ring swings in a circular motion, then it’s a girl!

Consider your Cravings.

Another theory suggests that what you are craving during pregnancy can also determine if you should be shopping for pink or blue. If you are craving sweet things, like fruit and chocolate, then it’s supposed to be a girl. If you are craving savoury things, like pizza and pasta, then it’s a boy!

Does the Baking Soda fizzle?

Get ready to pee!  Add a small amount of baking soda to a cup of your urine. If it fizzles, you are having a boy. If it doesn’t, then it’s a girl.

How’s Your Morning Sickness?

Morning sickness can also indicate whether you are having pink or blue. Apparently if it’s a girl, you can expect your morning sickness to be a lot worse!

When did you do the Deed?

And finally and perhaps the most accurate indication is when did you conceive? Experts suggest that if you had sex before ovulation, then it’s a girl. If you had sex and conceived on the day of ovulation or 48 hours after, then it’s a boy.

Take a guess! Studies also suggest that instincts are often accurate when it comes to the mummy to be. While you always have a 50 percent chance of guessing right, research indicates that the rate of successful guessing is actually around 71 percent. Call it mummy’s intuition…
