What to do When Boredom Sets In?

Motherhood is indeed a blessing and that special bond you and your child share is certainly something you will never think of giving up. But as your days turn into a series of repetitive tasks, you can easily find yourself dragging yourself from your bed each morning and just plainly bored out of your wits.

Addressing this boredom is important mainly because it will allow you to fully-enjoy motherhood. Meanwhile, ignoring it will just magnify the issue and leave you even more frustrated and depressed.

The good news is you are not alone in this dilemma and with a quick review of the tips below, you can easily find yourself excited with the dawn of each new day.

Plan your activities

The key here is to make sure you do not do the same things over and over on a daily basis. Try to do something new with your child. It can be something as simple as playing a new board game, visiting a friend or checking out a new  book shop. The point is you get to change your routine and you get to look forward to something each day or week.

Enroll in “Mummy and Me” Classes

Fortunately for you, there are presently a lot of business- minded individuals who decided to capitalize on the fact there are plenty of mums out there who would be delighted to attend a class with their child to break monotony. It can be a dance class or cooking class; the important thing is you have the perfect opportunity to do something with your kid outside of your home. Plus, there are plenty of opportunities to meet new friends!  If there aren’t any of these types of classes nearby, try taking your baby to swimming lessons

Scheduling “Me” Time

There is a misconception out there that mummies need to spend every minute of the day with their child. Just like regular employees, you need to have a break from your child caring activities every couple of hours. It would be a good idea to sneak in some “alone” time while your child is busy playing or watching a movie. Surf the internet or indulge in tabloid-magazine reading. Again, the key here is having some fun doing things you like to do, even if it is only for a few minutes.

Reconnect with Old Friends

Most mums feel they have completely lost their “old sociable self” with all their time consumed by their role as a mother. The social isolation does not help either and it would not be hard for boredom to quickly settle in. To drive away those lonely feelings, make an effort to re-establish relationships with your old friends, particularly those who also had a child and will most likely be in the same boat as you. You can also share late night conversations with your sister or closest cousin, catching up on the latest going-ons. Remember, you have to reach out as your friends and family would be hesitant to make the first move, thinking you are busy.

Re-discover passion for old hobbies

One way you can easily fight boredom is to think about what you used to be interested in before you became a mom and take them up again. Activities like painting and yoga or interests such as music or books will certainly make you feel good about yourself and chase away the blues. If your hobbies before were too outdoorsy, you can pick up a new one. The exciting thing about getting a new hobby is that there are plenty of choices, from crafts to cooking.

You have to realize and understand that boredom is really just a state of mind. Keep your mind (and body) busy and your days will all be just a blur of fun and interesting activities. You will even look forward to the everyday mundane tasks as they will serve as your downtime.
