So we all agree that being a mum is the best job in the world or we wouldn’t be using this website lol
But how do you feel about you? Yes YOU. There is still a you under that mum cape. Do you look after you as well?
Making sure you are happy is the most important part of being a good mum because it really is that if you are not happy your family is not happy. The mood you radiate is what your family reacts to. Do you even know what makes you happy now you are mum? I’m not talking they joy your kids give you (even though that’s great). I am talking about the happiness you find within yourself.
I would like you all right now to stop what you are doing and get a pen and a piece of paper. Write the numbers 1 to 20 down the page. Now I want you to write 20 things that make you happy. Not hard expensive things just simple things that you can do at the drop of a hat. To give you an idea my top 5 are sitting in the winter sun with the sun on my face, reading the paper, singing really loud in the car, watching the sun on the water and looking at the stars at night.
So right now….no procrastinating write your 20 things. If you can’t get 20 right away that’s ok come back to your list when you can but a least start with a few. I have a little book that I add to every time I do something that makes me think wow I could add that to my list. I am in the 70’s but my aim is 100.
How many of these things do you take the time to actually do?
Now have another look at your list how many of these things can you do in under 30 mins? Most of them? You make appointments for the doctor the dentist and the all your kids activities but when was the last time you made an appointment with yourself? I’m serious I want you all to go to your calendar and schedule 3 appointments with yourself for the next week. They only need to be 15-30 mins long and can be early morning, when the baby has a nap, after everyone is in bed or whenever works for you.
During these appointments with yourself I want you to start doing the things you have written on your list. If it’s a longer thing like painting or scrapbooking get a little box and after your 30 mins put it in there and then you will know where you are up to next time.
You will be amazed how much better you feel. Even if life is great and you are truly happy having this little bit of time just with yourself will do you wonders.
