Over the last few weeks or I have conducted an extremely informal study on the best and worst times to go grocery shopping. For a bit of consistency (and necessity just quietly) – I purchased the following items every time:
Wednesday Lunch Time
Observations: Even though Aldi has a tiny car park – it’s always busy. I love Aldi but sometimes the brands just don’t cut it….
Pro’s: It’s cheap!
Cons: Taking my trolley back to get the $2 is annoying when you have little kids. The check-outs always take a long time and I can’t get the brands I usually know and love. I’m all for saving money but sometimes I just like what I know!
Thursday – Late Night Shopping
Observations: Lovely and quiet….. easy to get a park – hardly anyone around – and the people that are around are in a great big hurry!
Pro’s: Quiet, fast and efficient time to shop!
Cons: Even though I left the kids at home with their Dad, I came home to a grumpy hubby who didn’t mind having to bath the kids and get them ready for bed, but was annoyed we missed half of our favorite TV show and he had to do the dishes.
Observations: Took a bit to get a car park. Loads of Mums and Bubs (I had my kids too) – so there was lots of yelling and nodding looks lol. Probably took about 30 minutes so not too bad.
Pro’s: Not a bad time to shop to avoid the crowds – great for people with little kids!
Cons: I had to take the kids – it’s was noisy but widely accepted!
Cost: $16.92 (you can never get the exact same weight of apples lol)
Saturday Afternoon 3.30pm
Observations: So many people rushing out to buy before the shops are closed on Sundays. Busy busy busy!!!!!
Pro’s: If you had extra money – the specials were awesome!
Cons: You had to fight people tooth and nail to get those specials.
There is no seven day trading here in Gympie so Sunday wasn’t measured!
Verdict: Grocery shopping for me is a necessary evil – so I loved Monday morning – but not the price. I suppose it depends on whether you have children with you or not… but I definitely think if you can, avoid after school times and for some great bargains – go alone on Saturday afternoon!!! I love Aldi for the staples, but having to do my shopping in two different places can be a real pain.
