How to Make Vinegar At Home Keep all your old cheap two litre vinegar bottles. Divide a new bottle into the two empty bottles and fill to the top with fresh rainwater (no tapwater - chlorine is a no no!) and leave in a warm place (but not in direct sunlight) for two to three days.  You will then have full-strength vinegar ready to use!
