How To Find A Night Fill Job

Where do you actually GO to find a night fill job?

Filling the supermarket shelves at night when your children are safely tucked into bed and your partner is home each night can be a welcome time to yourself as well as earning you a little extra cash, while still being able to stay home and look after your children every day. Night fill is basically shelf filling at night time in the supermarket. The place is quiet, you work alone (albeit amongst others) and it is usually a casual position (you can be paid casual rates of upwards of $23 an hour.)

Most night fill positions are only listed as casual, and some stores require that also be trained as a cashier so you can help during busy periods (if you are stacking shelves whilst the store is open).  The job can be very repetitive, and you need to be able to lift a minimum weight (depending on the store).

How to Get Your Foot in the Door:

Dress neat and tidy. Turn up to your local store during a quiet period and ask at the front counter if you can leave your resume for the Manager to have a look at. Disclose on your resume the hours you are available, and how keen you are to work – and why! Many stores will now direct you to their company website where you’ll need to apply online, but it still can’t hurt to present yourself to them to ask anyway!

Check your resume for errors before you hand it in or upload it to your application, and keep it brief.

Requirements:

You are more likely to get more hours on a night fill position if you are hard working, diligent and able to do the odd hours nobody wants to do.  But that’s once you already have the job!

Hours:

Primarily night fill jobs are at night – but sometimes big chains have afternoon shifts as well. Most night fill positions are casual and you can work as little or as often as the shop requires (and that fits in with your schedule).

Pros:

  • You can work the hours you require that fit in with your family.
  • Decent money.
  • Training is on the job.
  • You can work whilst the kids are asleep home with your partner or family.
  • Most large supermarket chains offer employees a discount card for grocery shopping.

Cons:

  • It is hard work and heavy lifting may be required.  Some basic level of fitness will be an advantage.
  • Being casual, if you don’t work, you don’t get paid. And you won’t get annual leave or sick leave payments.
  • Can be very repetitive.

If this is something you think might appeal to you go to your local store and lodge an application with your local supermarket, or hop online and apply or put in an expression of interest there –  it is that simple. Good luck!

Other Night Fill Jobs to Apply for?

If you have no luck with the supermarket, there are plenty of other places you can try for night fill work.  Have a look around where you live and seek businesses that are within driving distance.  Busy warehouses also employ workers for night shifts, so don’t overlook these type of establishments!
