Feeling the urge

Answered 5 years ago

So I'm feeling like a I want to do some good...rare feeling these day I know. I want to help some animals or people ....perhaps more animals cause I like them better lol. Some sort of charity work that isn't going to take loads of time, maybe a couple of hours a week. I work every weekend so it would have to be during the week. Does anyone out there do charity work? Any advice? Maybe the RSPCA? Nothing church related, I don't do religion.

I wouldn't do anything for the RSPCA, they don't do much to help animals.

Some churches do the most amazing charity work and its often not recognised. I don't think you need to be religious to help out. There is one local church that is doing wonders for our drug and alcohol addicted locals, we have one of the highest meth water levels in the country and yet the amount of money the state government has spent on tackling drug addiction in our community has barely changed in 20 years it is sickening. Massive toll on the community with lots of break ins and attacks. This is where the church has really come to the rescue by building their own rehab centre and supporting families going through the nightmare of having a drug addicted family member. Churches do amazing things for mental health sufferers too. And without our churches our homeless would have nowhere to turn, our state governments provide nothing for them.

Meth in sewerage water is what she means. It’s how they test for usage because it’s excreted in your urine. Common knowledge!

I have a job, i actually have 2. Why don't you take some time out of this fine day to work on your winning personality, maybe then people would like you more & you wouldn't have to spend all your time on this forum being a bitch.

If you have dog rescue volunteers in your area you could get in touch and volunteer your time as a dog walker to give the volunteers a break.

I’m another shero for Share the Dignity. If you don’t want to become a volunteer for them keep in mind they have two collections a year (April... happening now, and August) of sanitary items. They also have the It’s in the Bag drive at Xmas. Donations at these times are very welcome and you can be mindful of these during the year and start collecting. I always keep my eye out for specials and bargains and stock up. If you live in a rural area like I do, volunteers and donations are especially welcome.

I also buy a couple of food items each time I grocery shop and a couple of times a month give to the local food bank.

I keep my eye out for struggling mums in facebook groups and such (I stalk them hard to make sure they are genuine) and then I reach out and buy them groceries/baby supplies/fuel vouchers or help however I can.
I just sent through a click and collect food order to a lady in Tasmania who left domestic violence and has no centrelink yet, that will get her through two weeks, I sent a load of 00000 clothes to a woman with a premmie bub in hospital that couldn't afford smaller clothes and at the start of the year I went to hold another woman's hand through labour who doesn't have any family and was afraid to be alone. I don't tell anyone, if my husband knew he'd probably be a bit mad, he'd think it was a waste of time and money, he is not at all charitable or generous.

I don't get into organised charity work, it's not my scene. But I like to do the little forgotten jobs unseen. So, things like tidying up the cemetery, knitting blankets for the hospital, picking up rubbish along my walks, dropping off fresh flowers at the church, stuff like that. Is there something like that, that strikes your fancy?

Donate blood. Not really volunteering but it's 2 hours every three months and people need blood!
Volunteer on ur kids sport teams. Volunteer at local hospital or nursing home.
Be a foster carer. Or foster animals if people aren't ur thing (tho both of these two take a lot of your effort and family support)

Share the dignity.
I also pack bags with items for foster children and drop to a local organization. Some children arrive in foster care with hardly anything and what they do bring is in a garbage bag.
Also what about reading to kids in care?

It depends on if you want something where you can work what hours when and where you want or something where you have set shifts. I volunteer my time to Share the Dignity. They have two drives a year plus their Christmas campaign for Its in the Bag. It gets busy during those times but it’s pretty self directed.
