So sick of NSW demanding other states open their borders!

Answered 4 years ago

NSW has had (and still does) the highest rates of infection, made some big mistakes in the handling of things and now they're cracking it that other states wont open thrir borders to them. Listening to karl stefanovic, koshi, sam etc on their morning shows carrying on about it is pathetic! They sound like little kids chucking a tantrum because they've been told 'no'!! I live in WA, originally from VIC and most of my family is still there. I'm very far from being a panic person about this whole covid19 thing, however, we have very low cases here and are starting to get our normal lives back. I don't want that jepodised by our borders being opened and risking an outbreak and restrictions being reinstated because people want to holiday or play AFL here. We had a huge trip to QLD with a big group of people planned for July. We've accepted it wont happen and arecmaking other plans.

Let’s just close the borders permanently. Each state can be its own country.

Well, NSW has the highest number of cases because we are the main point of entry. All your fellow statesmen who are coming back from overseas arrive here and quarantine here before they come back nice and healthy to you. But that’s cool, we can look after your people for you, at our states expense..... we’re obviously the “germy ones”. Maybe we should stop repatriation of any who isnt from NSW, surely the other states who are so great at infection control can deal with it much better than NSW.

This is completly incorrect! WA had 3 plane loads of people arrive a few weeks ago from overseas! We have also had several other flights. Every single passenger was put into hotel quarantine before being able to travel back to their home state. A VIC family of 4 all tested positive after our state having zero new cases for 10 days! Perth is also a major point of entry! Very few people on thise 3 planes were west aussies. Doha is still accepting international flights, so aussies overseas try to get to Doha, then into Aus, Doha then fly direct to Perth. I also believe SA has had some international flights. WA has only had 16 cases of community transmission. All the rest are from flights and bloody cruise ships - the majority if those are not west aussies.

Also NSW numbers are high because of the ruby princess debarcle and how badly that was handled and your incompetent premier. NSW may be a main entry point on the east coast, but WA is also a main entry point to Aus, both by air and ship. We have put up 1000s in hotels the past few months to quarantine before going back to their home states. Get off your high horse. The majority of West Aussies completely agree with and support our premier in keeping borders closed. From what Ive read its the same in QLD.

I would like to see you numbers before you claim those things. Ruby princess debacle , what about our WA live exports one? Come now, everyone has made mistakes don’t believe everything

Before the live export ship arrived we had 2 active cases and zero new cases for 10 days straight - they are 2 of the VIC family members that arrived her by plane. We've had 16 community transfer cases in total and the majority of our total cases were from international flights and ships. The live export ship arrived in our port with active cases, they didn't get it here. The entire crew is isolated and quarantined and that debarcle started with the federal gov and their lack of information and communication to the WA gov and freo port

The ruby princess was a cruise ship with thousands of tourists allowed to disembark and make their own way to their home states and countries (spreading the virus as they go) The live export ship has less than 50 people on board, 6 positive and quarantined in hospital. 27 other crew are quarantined in hotels and the rest of the crew is isolated on the ship. The ruby princess and the live export ship are completely different and not comparable.

You can’t compare the ruby princess to the export ship. Ruby princess had hundreds of infected people allowed to leave the ship. The export ship has 48 people and the 6 positives went straight to quarantine.

They interviewed her on Sky news this morning. It was funny listening to her try to say the word constitutional 3 times before she finally got it. 😂 The woman is a joke. She doesn’t believe anyone has died of covid 19. More that they are dying with it, including the 100 000 people in the US. Idiot.

I watched about 5 minutes of Studio 10 before I had to turn it off...they were carrying on like pork chops about the QLD border being closed. They were filming their tv show while they all sat in separate studios, social distancing but they want us to open our borders to boast our regions that rely heavily on tourism....fucking hypocrites!!

I’m in Queensland and agree. They need to stop bullying everyone else to open their boarders. If it was between QLD, SA, WA,NT and Tas I would support it, although I would rather see our numbers in QLD go down to low single digits before we did that, just because the other states have lower numbers, except for Tas I think.

I'm pretty sure the only borders open between states are the NSW/VIC one/s at the moment, but it's WA and QLD that seem to be the ones copping it. SA and NT also had very low numbers. I don't think the NT have any cases now

ANSWER

I'm in QLD. We're getting the same thing. Most are for keeping the borders closed. We like getting our freedoms back & I love my kids being at school & kindy (I'm a crap home school teacher).

We cancelled a holiday overseas, now it's a winter beach holiday at a pretty quiet spot. Not usually my idea of fun but not a big deal.

I do agree we should be allowed state-wide travel though. We have a 250km limit. That won't get anyone outside SE QLD very far!!

I also100% agree, im in WA too, it’s ludicrous to even consider opening the borders at the moment. And NSW just look’s stupid demanding it, especially considering how they have handled everything.
