If daycare closes, do we continue to pay?

Answered 8 months ago

Does anyone know the answer? Without daycare, I cannot work and I cannot work from home. This will therefore pain me financially. Has anyone had a discussion about this with their daycare provider? I don’t think there is anything in the contract. I know we pay public holidays.. and I can’t find this information online.

If they close for more than a week & want me to pay, I'll un-enrol my child & re-enrol when they reopen.

OP here, I just got a message(out of the blue) from our daycare that we would not pay in the event of closure. Thank goodness. Goodluck everyone

If they are to close, advise them you are withdrawing your child until it's business as usual. Then you won't pay.
It's an absolute disgrace that parents are charged for public holidays.

I'm sure you want to be paid for a public holiday, just the same as childcare educators. They deserve to be paid also.

If you work in retail the customers aren't expected to pay for your day off. It's bullshit.

It pisses me off we have to pay, but I discovered that we can submit holiday discount forms for public holidays & save 35%.

Some centres no longer charge for public holidays, but, like all businesses they factor it into cost of doing business & you pay in higher daily prices.

Thats utter bullshit. No way should parents pay. My clients don't pay me on public holidays.

We have been told all fees will still be payable if they were to close

You will not have to pay. Government will also stop paying your ccb, so that won’t be all used up. We’ve been told if/ when centre’s close, the govt will prop up the services with grants they can apply for. Which is great for childcare centres. I work at a preschool and we are funded in a different way, parents will also not pay fees if we are closed, but there are also no grants we can apply for yet-so there is a very real possibility that staff won’t be paid if we shut down 😢
