Teacher is unorganised

Answered 4 years ago

I send my kids to a public school (WA). I recently met with our teacher to check in as I have not been getting any feedback for our kid, no homework, nothing. We had a long discussion and the teacher suggested a few things they will do for my child/and the class, and nothing has happened. That was 2weeks ago and I have gently prompted the teacher who has said they have been busy but will get on to it, again nothing has happened(that was a week ago). I feel like the school is not caring, the teacher is nice but they just don’t care. I also tutor at a different school and I am so involved with my students... so I caN really feel that this sucks. Anyone got a suggestion ?

Homework is becoming a bit outdated these days. My kids go to a good private school (also Perth) and they have a No-Homework-Policy so that kids can focus on after school sports, music tuition and just bring kids. They do enough work at school during the day anyway.

The key here is that you go to a “good private School”. I’m the op and I work at those good private schools, I know that the teachers feel a lot of pressure to keep the kids learning and achieving goals, And parents can put pressure on because they pay for a service. I feel you have missed the point of my post.

“Parents can put pressure on teachers?”

Haha! With that kind of mindset, no wonder the teacher is ignoring your requests! 🤣

They are paying for a service and when paying 30k absolutely thy will if unhappy. It's a business

And perhaps we can agree that the ‘business’ focus is exactly what is wrong with schools these days.

School culture and relationships above profit!

My girls attend a school that did away with homework about two years ago. We have the dancing, swimming lessons and netball during the week so there simply isn’t time and the school principal has acknowledged the need for students as well as teachers and parents needing less school-ranted stress at home.

I suggest you email the teacher again and remind her that you’d like a meeting. CC. The principal in. Maybe back up a bit on the homework.

I will just clarify that this isn’t a homework issue. This is an issue about the teacher saying they will do many things but not. In and outside the classroom. She has promised the kids something every day for months, and keeps putting it off because she is unorganised. We get no information on anything. My child could be failing or learning nothing and I would know. My child also was told these tests don’t matter. It is more complicated because I know the other teacher teaching the same age, is doing a terrific job(we had her last year. I finally got my hands on a book and it was riddled with errors, spelling list errors- ticked off as correct by the teacher. I agree It may be good to cc the principal in, but I don’t want to escalate..l feel principal is very defensive and will likely be unhelpful. It’s great to do co corruular, but I don’t think my kids should be at school all day, exhausted, and not really learning anything.. (kid has said this).

I’d make an appointment to see them to follow up on the promised things. I’d be polite but firm.

Thank you, I feel like I just needed permission, as I don’t want to come across as demanding(a little silly in hindsight).
