Mums smoking by school grounds

Answered 4 years ago

What can be done about this situation? Almost everyday (when it’s not raining) when dropping my kids off to school, my kids plus a lot more others are having to pass this group of mums that are smoking while chatting right next to the side entrance of the school. Not against smoking nor do I judge anyone who does, but I don’t like my kids being around that nor having to walk pass it and inhaling it.

Walk a different way to avoid it then. Unless you want to be known as the petty bitc*y mum. I know it sucks having to inhale it, it’s gross. Unfortunately if cogarettes are still available all us non smokers have to cop it as well.,

Definitely agree. I’m the person who honestly goes with the flow, things like this I would never bring to light and just pass on by. There’s only two ways to get in and out of the school.. front entrance is always jammed with traffic and school crossing, just to wait for a parking I would probably be waiting 10-15 mins. Side entrance (where these mums are smoking) is literally a breeze getting in and out! Like I said I’m not the type to really care about other stuff but don’t like my kids being around or inhaling smoke 🤷🏽‍♀️

There are laws about not being able to smoke on school property and that includes the car parks. Talk to the school and make sure they are aware.

Talk to the school about it. I’m a smoker but i find it completely rude and inconsiderate to smoke around others, let alone children. Of course if the school can’t do anything about it, I like the water pistol idea above. The price of smokes now would quickly have them waiting until they got away from the gates to light up 😂

I am a smoker but I find is plain rude to smoke anywhere near a school. Just drive home and smoke!!
I would most definitely speak to the school office and just hope they actually do something about it

I literally just emailed the school about the same thing.

Tell the school. My son's school has an exclusion zone of 5 meters from the fence, as per qld law, & the staff are onto it quick. They use their teacher's voice & bombard everyone with app notices & so no one tries!

Instead, they smoke on the only path in the carpark, which is just over 5 meters from the fence. I find it's the dad's at our school. There's not many smokers but it only takes one.

If they are off the grounds and the school doesn’t have an exclusion zone around the entrance, nothing. If so, talk to the school admin. You could try and talk to the mums if you want.
