Please help. Domestic violence?

Answered 4 years ago

This isn't me. This is my best friend. Her fiance is a drug addict (ice) she has kicked him out of the house (they are renting but it's in her name). He came back today and smashed holes in the wall, kicked the front door in, threatened her but never actually touched her. She won't go to the police but she is worried about the house because it's in her name? Can anyone help me with advice on how to help her? What to do etc. The lease is up next week but she will be left with no bond because of the damage?

Call the police- you can do it anonymously. Next time she might not be so lucky to not be physically harmed especially if ex is unpredictable and high. The guilt will stay with you
Also, get her to ring realestate agent first thing Monday morning and explain what’s happening- they are usually pretty good Especially in domestic violence issues and police report will help alot

Most women dont want to do anything in fear but please dont ignore it
It might be the best thing someone could do to get her out and safe

Thankyou so much! I'm going back over tomorrow I couldn't push her today and we're going to go to the police station together. So she can report etc

She needs to go to the station and file a police report. If she doesn’t then she is liable for the damages, plus she needs to get out of that situation.

She also needs to create a history with the police of his actions. If he attacked her, and she hit him back, if there is no history held by police of her being abused, he could ring the police and accuse her of attacking him. She would then be in trouble as a domestic abuser.
This has happened to a lot of aboriginal women who have been abused horrendously for years, and when they eventually explode, the abusive husband has phoned police and bleated about being attacked, and SHE has gone to jail.

You could always put it on Airtasker or something like that, or if you know anyone that’s a handyman, and ask them to quote it, and if they could help you out by reducing their price; or like others have said, get police report etc

She needs to call the police so that she isn't liable for damage - the landlords insurance will. This will also make him liable for any costs instead of her. She will have to pay the costs if she doesn't report it.
