Should WA relax some of its isolation rules?

Answered 4 years ago

Most of our covid-19 cases are from a cruise ship and as yet there is no community transmission.

I feel like we should be able to carefully re-instate some things.

I think we are being put under the same rules as NSW etc which seems a little crazy considering the differences in virus infection rates.

Which rules would you like to relax? Is it the regional travel exclusions? (Because it's the Easter long weekend)

No i think they should stay in place until our infection rate is 0, but i think play grounds should be open and social distancing should be applied as one example, also i think school’s should remain open.

Kids will not keep to social distancing rules. They’ll be pushed up against each other vying for that spot on the swing. Kids are too young to really understand the importance of distancing and some parents are too dumb and selfish to care. Keep the playgrounds closed. It won’t be forever.

I think where I am in Perth, people are very much self isolating. I happen to slightly agree that playgrounds being closed is a downer for the ops reasons.. where I am , people are really keeping their distance, and playgrounds are empty, kids are cooped up inside and my youngest is really struggling. The dogs are out in full force at the ovals... aren’t they capable of catching it?

In WA it is easy to go to a playground and be the only family there, infact before the playgrounds were taken away (at least where i live) when one family arrived another left. Even before the pandemic im not sure my kids ever played at a park with other kids (unless they came with us) because we only really go to empty parks. I would agree that in NSW they need to close the play grounds, but not in WA, especially in remote areas, its ridiculous.

Yes I agree with this, playgrounds are always empty here where we live

For me isolation is exposing me to waaaaayy more people then usual, im a bit of loner anyway, but always go for a walk for about an hour everyday, i used to see no one on my walks now there are 100’s and 100’s of people walking, running etc. ive started walking at night time now to avoid them all! And not because im avoiding the virus, just the people!

I’m in WA and there’s always lots of kids at my local parks. I live across the road from one. Always lots of kids there unsupervised.

No dogs don't catch it but cats do.
Another reason to be responsible and keep your goddam cat on your own property!

What makes you think that? I was thinking that too, if things keep going the way they are now

The government have already said 6 months. Yes things are going well now but if we relax in another 3 weeks we could well see a second wave, much what’s happening in China now.

^yes, but are you from Wa or over east? The situation in WA is very different to the rest of Australia.

Ive just read only 3 more cases in WA today, from cruise ships. Seems crazy we have locked up the community when there is no community transmission!

Yes I’m in WA and the premier has said just today that restrictions will remain in place for another 6 months. Maybe not as tight as they are now but our borders at least will at least remain closed for that long. And there are still 5 cruise ships off our coast and still 600 passengers in isolation in our hotels so of course restrictions must remain.

ANSWER

Maybe we haven’t seen any community transmission because of the strict isolation laws in place. So no we absolutely should not.

So if there is no community transmission, there is no virus in the community, so with our borders shut and all those with Covid-19 accounted for, how can anyone catch a disease that dosnt exist in the community?

REPLY
^how do you know it doesn’t exist? The authorities are saying the only confirmed cases are those off cruise ships. But there could very well be asymptomatic people who are positive and don’t know it, and likely to spread it if the restrictions are lifted.

Wouldnt there be at least some, even 1 or 2 people becoming infected and going to a doctors or a hospital sick? There has been none of that.

REPLY

^ since most people have mild symptoms and they behave only been testing those who have travelled or been in contact with those who have then it’s very likely there are people who are positive and don’t realise. Or still incubating, as they now believe the incubation Period can be much much longer than 2 weeks.

It'll be like stopping your antibiotics early because you feel better. It doesn't mean your infection is gone

It’s true about the AB, they changed the advice around AB about a year or two ago, my Doctor is a lecturer at an Australian University and the above advice is what i have been told too.

To stop, ask your Dr. about it, something about limiting the amount of AB we are all on.
