Do you go through home opens with no intention of buying?

Answered 4 years ago

I think it’s rude to go have a nosey through people’s homes. If you want to look at homes, go through display homes. My mum has had so many nosey parkers going through her home with no intention of buying. It’s making her feel uncomfortable that strangers know what she has in the house and can suss out she lives alone. Mum lives near shops so she has dodgy people on their way back from the deli just stopping in for something to do. I think you should have to show your ID and have it recorded.

Been in a few rentals that got sold while I was living there. It is really common for people to snoop with no intention to buy.

Also really common to have small things go missing so encourage anything of value to be locked up and have a few people in the home to check on what viewers are doing.

I found staying in the house during the open stopped people touching things.

We do in the town where we live. We want to sell eventually so we look at the house, size, price etc to see what we may get.

No you don’t. During COVID you have to give a name and number but they could be fake and usually are.

Ive had to once. Problem is if you leave your number the agent hassles you so get their card and block them!

When looking for a house we went through a few that we weren't going to buy, but wanted to compare size/price etc. So it was more research, not just for fun.

Yes same here. We were working out what we wanted and what we didnt. You need to see a few houses to get an idea. It certainly wasnt to be nosey though. Whos even got time for that!

If she doesn't like it, don't have open houses. I hated it & will never be pushed into having them again if I'm still living there. I had people I knew saying they went through my house & proceeded to comment on what was in my cupboards!!

Genuine buyers will arrange private inspections.

I reckon if you don’t like it you should complain to the agency. More people need to stand up and make a complaint- the more that do the more changes that will happen. I know you are probably looking for validation on here(which I do all the time and I fully support that), but my advice is to complain and see where it goes. Goodluck
