How many times do you text the people that said they will do a character reference for you ? I said I need it emailed by 7 day deadline

I text the people twice and no answer
7 days is up next Monday

Yeah text message seems lazy for someone doing a reference for you. They're basically doing you a favour, the least you could do is to call them to see if everything is alright

Call them but also start lining up someone else. You don’t want to be left without.

I would call them & let them know you're applying for a job, or a few. Then ask them if they can be a Reference for that job or a few at the moment. If they have time to write a Reference, that'll be great. Also ask if they are happy with their name & number on your resume for the time being etc.

A written reference is a great starting point, especially when narrowing down the applications. I would always call the Referees listed though. Research the company for general info etc. Also drop off the Application in person if possible. It helps to put a 'face' to the 'name' & shows you are keen. I answer this with a background at an Employment Agency, as well as an employer.
