Anyone adopt their foster child or know someone who did

Answered 4 years ago

I just want some info about it if you have any, or how easy or hard it was. I want to ask my case manager but I'm scared haha

An old neighbour adopted twins that she had been long term fostering since babies. I remember her excitement when all the adoption details had been processed.

I also remember her complaining a lot about how long it took to get it all approved and sorted in Australia. She described the process as very drawn out but worthwhile. I can't remember exactly how long though.

I'd say to go for it and ask your case manager.

If you have them long term you can go to the court to get ‘permanent care’ until they are 18

I think it would make a difference to the child being adopted, rather than long term care. I know on the surface its pretty much the same thing, but I think it would mean more to them to be adopted. OP you are doing a lovely thing 🙂

It’s extremely hard in Australia almost unheard of.

A friend did. Not sure exactly what was involved but it was a lengthy process and involved going to court. But one lovely little girl has a family that desperately wanted her.

Just ask! What a beautiful thing to welcome that child into your heart and life x ive heard of long term fostering till age 18 which is an easier way
