Why are some of us wired to sometimes feel we're missing out on experiences?

Answered 4 years ago

I've just seen an advert on Brisbane festival and I as a 42 year old woman thought I miss out on these kind of things. But the thing is I know myself well enough to know that I hate crowds and being where there is lots going on. I'm way happier hanging out with my close friends or at home.

It's called marketing.

Try watching a series called 'the men who made us spend'. It's on YouTube in 3 episodes. It's a few years old now (probably the 90's) & has a bit of history, but explains how marketing uses techniques including FOMO & making you feel bad about yourself to encourage you to buy. It was quite liberating for me to understand the concepts & not be manipulated by them.

They also did a series called 'the men who made us fat'. That one has some confronting truths. You'll definitely rethink your soft drink choices!!

I'll add it's called 'the men' because it's angled at how it's been developed from the 60's when men were solely in charge of this stuff. Some of the stuff aimed at women makes me so glad I didn't live then!!!

Hmm here's a wild idea you could try it. Sometimes it's fun to jump out of your comfort zone and live a little. Just do it in a way that you could handle your issues or dislikes a bit better. Has 2020 taught you nothing? You only have one life, don't you want to taste and try everything while your here?

I used to think it would be amazing to be a socialite but getting dressed up to go to parties with people you don’t really know for the sake of it would get boring after a while. This isn’t me, I enjoy getting dressed up and going out my family, husband or girlfriends, spending time with people who mean a lot to me. We don’t even have to get dressed up.
