How did you become comfortable and handle getting older?

Answered 3 years ago

How do you deal with getting older? What things do you do to continue to feel good about yourself and keep yourself feeling happy and attractive as you age? How old are you now? Do you have a positive older female role model?

It bothered me, until I adopted the mindset of 'aging is a luxury, not afforded to everyone.'

I'm 33 and my mum is 61. Growing up she was always very grounded, not focused on looks etc. I think it probably rubbed off on me, as I'm the same. Sure, we like to get dressed up, put makeup on etc sometimes, but don't feel like it's something we have to do for anyone but ourselves. Getting old, getting wrinkles etc doesn't bother me. The thing I think I will struggle with is when I can't do things I used to, which is why I try and be reasonably healthy with eating/sleeping/exercise.

I’m 47 so I guess I qualify. I exercise everyday, don’t drink, work in a job I love for a great boss with great people. My kids are teens so I get time to myself. I have great friends and socialize a lot. I look after myself and keep positive.

I have lost several close family members who did not make it to old age. Most recently my sister who died age 39. To grow old is a privilege. To die young is an absolute tragedy. It is society who places value on youth. Fact is, you can be beautiful at any age. Be confident, take care your health, both physical and mental and count your blessings
