A surgeon, but I fell pregnant 6 years into study.
I chose my boy. I was never going to have kids.
I don’t regret my choice in any way , but when I think about the career I wanted it stings. It’s hard to explain, I’m happy, I love my life, but there this twang in my heart when I think of being a surgeon. I dream of it often. Maybe when my boy is teenage I might start to study again, but it’s hard to think about that.
I want to help peopl, I specifically wanted to eventually get into brain or heart surgery.

What about becoming a dietitian? You'll probably get some credits from your nursing study.

Something that isn’t emotionally soul destroying. I’m a teacher and have always worked in tough schools. Once you see how some kids get treated and have hard, hard lives it just changes you, and they are pushed through a school system that doesn’t see any of it. I wanted to bring home so many kids and just love them. But you can’t and I still think about the ones who got lost in the system. I quit three years ago because it was so emotionally and mentally stressful, I basically had a breakdown. I want to go back but my mental health and kids come first.

May I ask, with respect - what will you do when your kids are grown? Will you study and choose a career then?

I'm not career oriented either. At the moment I'm a sahm, but when I go back to work I'll be happy to have a job that suits me and my family.

What don’t you like about being a RN? Life is so tricky with these things, I get you. I feel like if I could go back in time, it wouldn’t really matter what I chose, it would have down sides...probably with hindsight I would have gone into child psychology though...before it became quite popular. Probably get a much better salary too

Chef is similar to if not more demanding than nursing. Was in hospitality and now in nursing.

My dream job would be a nurse but I don’t think I could do shift work. Otherwise it would be something part time within school hrs with school holidays off that pays well 🤣
