Did your kids’ sporting club give a refund for the cancelled season due to covid?

Answered 4 years ago

My daughters club refused to give a refund. We’d paid for court hire which is about $12 per game in advance. We missed 6 games and still had to pay. There were also admin fees and membership fees which the parents think should have been partially refunded. We weren’t even given credit for the following season. Some parents were doing it tough and the refund would’ve helped. Do you think it’s fair?

You should all be credited the money you've paid toward next season, or offered a refund.
Our footy team said they will refund happily.

Parents paid for court hire. The club doesn’t own the courts. We hire them. The club wouldn’t be out of pocket.

Unfortunately so many things are out of peoples control. That can't be helped but it's definitely wrong when they dismiss the concerns that the parents have. At the end of the day, the parents and their kids are the reason the clubs have teams

Not fair at all. That's terrible sportsmanship. Because our season is shorter, we were given some options. We could get a refund of the difference or donate it to the club. If the player pulled out of the whole remaining season, they were offered a full refund

That’s what I expected. The parents who suggested it got ripped into.

Thats so unfair. That sort of behaviour would make me look for another club. Is this a possibility for you?

We stayed on this season because we didn’t want to let the team down. But next season at least three from my team are out, my kid included.

The club still has mandatory costs to pay that’s your contribution so it is fair

The money we paid was for court hire. The club don’t pay that, the players do. We didn’t play so we should’ve been refunded. We missed half a season, wind ups, wind up gifts for coaches and team managers that were all paid for at start at season. We should’ve had a part refund for that.

It’s a little sad as I can see why they do it, but people like to get something for what they pay.. it feels like it is neithers fault but both both sides naturally would blame the other. This is a financial response of an organisation stressed about losing, they don’t have a manual unfortunately. I’m curious whether we will get refunds for anything too, I feel like just looking the other way even though I would like the cash...if I had a business like this it would be so stressful

Totally unfair. I think they are going to have a lot less people sign up next season!

This is exactly what has happened. They lost at least a third of the club. Now they’re scrambling to try and make up teams for the next season.
