I need someone to clarify. Can it really cause food poisoning to wash it?

They say that the splashing can spread the bacteria all over the kitchen but if you leave it on the chicken the bacteria will be killed during cooking anyway. What I don't get is, there are other things we do to raw chicken that could be spreading bacteria around like bowls, knives, chopping boards, hands and the packaging the chicken was in. Surely little flecks of bacteria get thrown around anyway so I would say the risk is no greater than other handling. I wash chicken before crumbing it because it sticks better, we are all still alive.

Yes it can cause food poisoning you should never wash it.

I sit my chicken in a bowl of water before crumbing it rather than rinsing it under water

Then you just spread the bacteria to the bowl and the water in the bowl, so when you tip it out you're going to have teeny little droplets of chicken bacteria flying all over your kitchen, just like people who rinse it under the tap. You're whole family is going to get food poisoning now. I hope you feel OK now.

^ I feel fine thank you. Being doing this for 10 years and no bouts of gastro or food poisoning yet from anyone in the family yet. Any surface a raw chicken touches has to be washed. With water. So there will be contaminated droplets no matter what you do.

Recipes tell you to rinse and pat dry. What if they use weird stuff on it before bagging it? You could all be eating weird stuff. I think it's like washing fruit and vegies before you eat it.

They tell you that so you chicken is dry. Not to get rid of anything.

Unless you use a soap/detergent and not just water to wash your fruit and veg, all you are really washing off is maybe a random insect, probably not any of the 'germs' people are so worried about. If they had used weird stuff on your chicken, it would have been marinating in it for a while by the time you use it so rinsing wouldn't get rid of it anyway.

Yes I do. I saw someone do it once and copied them lol. Takes off that outside smell from the wrapping and any excess moisture that feels a bit slimey

Washing raw chicken before cooking it can increase your risk of food poisoning from campylobacter bacteria. Splashing water from washing chicken under a tap can spread the bacteria onto hands, work surfaces, clothing, and cooking equipment.

No because washing raw chicken before cooking it can increase your risk of food poisoning from campylobacter bacteria. Splashing water from washing chicken under a tap can spread the bacteria onto hands, work surfaces, clothing, and cooking equipment. Water droplets can travel more than 50cm in every direction.

No. But I’m always particular about handwashing while im cooking with it and thoroughly cleaning any surfaces it has touched. And careful about cross contamination with other foods.
