Blood results and unhelpful gp!

Answered 4 years ago

I had some routine blood tests my naturopath had asked for. In the results the gp said my liver ‘levels’ ? Were a bit higher than normal, but wasn’t concerned. I’ve had routine blood tests and this has never been an issue. Also my iron was a bit lower than normal and something else came back a bit out of the normal range.
I guess my question is, does anyone know about liver results; are they dangerous if a little bit higher or out of the normal range? I don’t know if I should be worried. The doctor simply said I must have had a fair bit of Panadol and nurofen before the tests which I said I hadn’t.
I just want to know if I should be worried.

Elevated liver enzymes may indicate inflammation or damage to cells in the liver. Inflamed or injured liver cells leak higher than normal amounts of certain chemicals, including liver enzymes, into the bloodstream, which can result in elevated liver enzymes on blood tests. I have this sometimes as I have Celiac disease but honestly stick with a GP advice steer clear of naturopathic stuff

To be honest the naturopath was the one ordering the tests and looks into them a lot whereas the gp hasn’t been any help what so ever. Also my iron went from low to slightly elevated so feel like they just don’t care to check what’s happening. I only got bloods done cos of naturopath

My daughter has glandular fever and one of her liver tests came back extremely high. The reading should have been under 31 and her result was 605. It just meant there was inflammation which is normal with glandular fever. Doctor will keep an eye on it but as it’s normal, wasn’t overly concerned.

Oh wow that’s good to know they weren’t concerned with such a high reading. Will they retest once she’s better?
Well mine was no way near that high, but there is no reason for it to be elevated what so ever.
Doctor only said if I’ve had antibiotics recently, smoke, drink a fair bit, or have had Panadol or nurofen a fair bit to which I e done none of those so I don’t get why it’s elevated at all.

Wrote a long reply then my page crashed.....again. Yes my daughter will have blood tests every two weeks until levels start dropping. Perhaps you’re fighting an infection you don’t know about yet.

No dont be worried, are you a little over weight? (No judgement 😊) if so this is probably the reason your liver is a bit unhappy atm, this problem can be reversed by loosing a bit of weight, even 5kg will reverse it, depending what your starting weight is. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your response. No I’ve lost a bit of weight recently and well and truly in the normal weight range for my height and age.
I just don’t know what to make of it!
