The flu kills 60,000 people a year. This virus 2000.
Does everyone stockpile every year for the flu? This virus has just been blown up by the media.

It might not mean much to you but what if you visit granny end up giving it to her & it kills her. How would you feel about that?

Im aware of whats happening and staying informed, i had planned to take the kids to the dragon festival in China Town in Perth next weekend, but now im reconsidering it. We live in the city just a couple of streets away from China Town so ive been considering face masks. (Obviously i know we can catch it anywhere, not just in China Town hahah!)

We need to be strict about this. I honestly think we should close off planes coming from China to Australia temporarily or get the people to go straight into quarantine to make sure they don’t have this disease. This shit spreads like wild fire, imagine if it gets to the children and then that child goes to school boom full on outbreak. This disease is so bad that not all those children would even survive. It’s horrible, I wish my best to China and everyone being effected by this disease.

That wouldn’t work. The incubation period is 2 weeks. People have unknowing being carrying it, travelling, around. People who have been to China could very well travel to many other countries before landing here.

It seems children aren't as impacted by this disease as adults. Kids under 9 seem to be fine world wide andthere have been no deaths in kids under 9. But doesn't mean they can't spread it

The thing is, companies & people are fantastic at finding loopholes. Unis are paying for Chinese students to stay in another country for 14 days in isolation. They're not isolating but partying & some have tested positive on arrival.
Airlines are not helping. We're supposed to be going to Japan - people on FB planning pages are still going because Australian airlines won't refund - almost every other country's airlines are (including non-refundable tickets). I'm looking for alternatives or we'll lose about 8k in non refundable stuff. It's very tempting to go so we don't lose money but we won't be going. A year of saving & planning down the drain!!

A little bit as it's not nice to see diseases spread around. But I'm wondering how these outbreaks compare to common diseases. An ABC article from August 2019 had the Australian national death toll from influenza at 430, and no-one seems to freak out about the flu.
