Its not meant to be more than of you were working,so those who were getting $1500 when normally they would earn less should have to pay it back. The same as those winging about it beingreduced. It is an intrim payment you should be actively applying for jobs or studying or retraining. Not pretending or applying for jobs you are not qualified to do just to fill numbers. Likewise dont apply for places that only predominantly teenagers fast food etc. Ifyou can afford tattoos, alcohol and smokes on centrelink you should not be getting a payment. Those are not essentials!

I do not go to work and get abused to pay tax for people to spend money on booze, drugs and alcohol then cry poor me.

You cant afford tattoos, booze or drugs on centrelink, they are all very expensive. It’s a myth that you can live that life style on benefits. People who do those things mostly work.

REPLY

^a lot of them work cash in hand while getting centrelink.

I have tattoos, and I'm working, and it literally takes me 18 months to save for one. There's no way i could afford it on centrelink

REPLY

I half agree with the tattoo thing but you probably get them at reputable places lol.

My husband has a lot of tattoos and they start from about $500.
But you would have bad tottoo artist charging cheap rates in dodgy areas.
My brother has a tattoo his friend did for free at home with their own tattoo gun, that’s pretty common in lower socioeconomic economic areas.

People who say they can afford this that and the other don’t realise who bad areas have their own economy for things.
When you steal cigarettes you can sell them super cheap cos they didn’t cost you anything.
When you buy a attatoo gun you can sell your friends tattooos for 50 bucks and do it from home.

Most of Australia really is so sheltered from how poor areas actually run.

Pensioners got an extra $1500 as opposed to around $6000 (give or take some) That's great for those that really need it, not so much for the bludger that boast about their tax payers paid holiday

Exactly carers and pensions who do it a lot harder missed out. Jobseekers get vouchers for food, fuel, clothing through job agencies. Also job agencies help with resues, training, employment and other necessities. There is PLENTY of help there for job seekers. They are not that hard done by as they have you believe. They just need to ask their job agency for the help they need.

Meanwhile $1500 does not go far when you have specialists, special food or clothing, medical aids, therapies. Food prices going up and bills have too. Rent increases yes its not meant to, but its happen.

Pensioners own houses because back then they could afford to buy houses. They shouldnt be punished when thwy have paid tax since they started working. They earnt what little they get by paying taxes long before u or i.

REPLY

As someone who works in aged care many had to sell their homes or were forced out by greedy kids. Happens all too often then those "loving kids" take money and drop mum and dad in a shitty care facility. You shouldnt assume everyone has their own home.

Jobkeeper should only of existed for permanent part time and full time workers who could maintain their job in some format with a downturn in business - ie the business is still able to operate at a determinable minimum capacity (say 70%) and the employee was still required to complete their shifts. If the business was not able to operate and the employer not able to continue working they should of been given the option to take leave with no pay and access to a jobseeker derivative to supplement at the same rate as jobseeker providing the business could guarantee their employee a job after covid. If not they should of been forced to find other work or go on jobseeker. The jobkeeper payment should of been on a sliding scale dependant on permanent hours worked, not one payment fits all. All casual workers should of been pushed onto jobseeker if they were unable to secure other work because quite frankly that is the nature of casual work. Jobseeker should of had an increase to accomodate the increased cost of living - I think they have it about right on the 2nd time around (the decreased amount). I think their should of been monthly reporting around jobkeeper.

I think that all people accessing jobkeeper and jobseeker should of been subject to an available income test. If they have the money in the bank to support themselves, then they should of been doing that prior to being able to claim either payment.

At the moment the system is a black hole of fraud and over payment.

Her employer is not allowed to ask her to work more than the hours she was working before jobkeeper started.
Good on her for sticking to her guns , so many employers are abusing the system unlawfully making staff work the extra hours

REPLY

^The employers shouldnt be abusing the system but likewise the government shouldnt have been paying people who worked part time a full time wage. It was bound to cause issues.

REPLY

I agree. They should have begun the payments from a particular point in time. For example if you were already on newstart, say prior to January 1st, then you should not be eligble for jobseeker

Depends on your job contract. My friend is working 60+ hours a week because her part time staff refuse to do more hours than their contracted minimum. She's on salary so even though on JK herself she has no choice.

When JK ends they staff will be whinging again that they need more hours. They'll be too late. She's giving shifts to staff from other areas of the business who appreciate their jobs & once it ends they'll be the ones she trusts & gives first choice of work too.

If your friend was my friend, I’d agree and understand what she plans to do..but as she isn’t I’m questioning this. Is this really fair? Why should workers work more when the pay is being covered for the employer. They are contracted a certain amount of hours- they have previously organised their life around those hours, and now you want them to stretch more work ours in.. having already a tight schedule myself, this would be unfair

REPLY
^^its not that simple though, people work part time for various reasons like kids and elderly parents. They may not be able to just pick up extra shifts because they are being paid more. The government shoud have covered their normal wage for their normal hours, no more and no less.

It is so easy to say get a job!!! There is 10269 jobs available in Perth according to seek right now and how many unemployed people? Then you get people who have been out of the work force for how ever many years due to raising kids, illness or what ever. It is not so easy to get a job in practice.

I understand there is people who take advantage of the system but there is a lot of people that need it. If given the choice I think most people would prefer to work.

Exactly raising kids kills career as those year off are seen as a negative. You have to retrain or hope you old employer will take you back. Because otherwise its an up hill battle. I had to retrain and even then with covid getting a job when no one is actually interviewing despite advertiaing is hard. They can advertise all they want but 80% are not interviewing atm or starting until covid settles. Fact from employeers.
