Swearing at kids

Answered 4 years ago

Who does? I never used to. My 8yo is getting quite the attitude so I told him to shut up. I feel awful.

Shut up isn’t too bad, don’t let it escalate. Calling your kids fkn c***s is absolutely disgusting.

Last November i lost it at my teenage kids. They were all being the most rude, ungrateful, self entitled, disrespectful turds at the same time.
I was also pregnant and hormonal (my excuse) and it was a 40 degree day and i lost it and let some horrendous verbal abuse out at them for about an hour!
Of course i felt really bad, but the kids all came and apologised to me and i apologized to them and they were really well behaved for the next few months. It was just a bad day, but i still feel so awful for the words that i said out of anger

I admit I've sworn occasionally, even told them to shut up because I had passed my limit. We're human, not Disney families! One is ASD and incredibly intelligent and can switch attitude in an instant if he doesn't get his way.

However, it's not often and I've never called them horrible names. That's the absolute worst thing imo. Apologise and explain it's not an acceptable way of speaking to anyone and talk about strategies to prevent it happening again (not blame, just expressing feelings to prevent it happening).

I’m not proud of it but I’ve let out a few “oh for fucks sakes” and “are you fucking kidding mes?” Over the last couple of weeks. I would never call my kids names, I hate people calling their children little cunts or little bitch with or without the child present and unfortunately I’ve heard it from a couple of people. If you wouldn’t allow someone else to say it to your children you shouldn’t be saying it either. But also with everything that is going on it is understandable to lose your cool and throw out a shut up or fucking hell. Don’t beat yourself up over this.
