I’m so lucky I’ve never had a cold sore and I’m 33 - I remember friends in high school always got them and I wondered what the hell they were lol

You can carry the virus and never have an outbreak. Or the outbreak could just be some little red bumps that you assume are pimples and be none the wiser. Watch the video of Adam ruins everything” on the topic of herpes. Very informative.

I would politely say nothing appeals to me and go somewhere else. I'd probably have lost my appetite anyway, they are horrendous to look at. And no, I do not carry the virus and would like to keep it that way. Who knows if they've washed their hands before handling my cutlery.

ANSWER

seems like all the infected ones think its no big deal.
Well forgive the uninfected who want to keep it that way.
No thank you, I would not like herpes with my coffee and croissant.

I don't carry the virus, but I have family members who have herpes virus and I don't avoid them like the plague. I won't share my coke with anyone if they have a cold sore but like that's a given anyway. So small minded

Seriously? Apart from what a lot of people have already said, what about all the invisible contageous diseases in our day to day life? Do you wear gloves when you push a shopping trolley? - that is one one of the worst places to catch something. Also the bottom of your handbag - think about all the places it gets put. Get over yourself, you sound incredibly ignorant and like you think someone with a coldsore is so inferior purely coz it's visible. Do you refuse to be served by someone with a cold? This is life, all sorts of stuff come qcross our paths every day. A coldsore can last 10 days, people can't just lick themselves away from society every time they get one!

Exactly! Like above poster says, you wouldn't know how many people you interact with have an sti, hepatitis, HIV, genital herpes, or something like MRSA, pseudomonas or even head lice lol or any other infectious disease. And what right do you have you discriminate against them anyway? Honestly! Get over yourself

This is a virus that can kill a baby.
Why are you all so complacent?

There are a lot of things that could kill a baby. But as long as you are taking reasonable precautions around your child you lesson that risk. There will always be some risk though. I've been prone to cold sores since I was a teen. My husband gets them too. Usually when we are super stressed out. None of our children have had them. You just don't kiss them and follow simple everyday hygiene practices. It is great that there is some awareness now of how badly it can affect newborns so that ppl do take extra precautions around them. Not sure why you would kiss a baby when you had one? Personally I would not leave an establishment or ask to be served by someone else. Unless I saw them touching it or licking my food.

Because we know that if you have a break out in them if you have them you just be super careful. We are not idiots who join the bandwagon of avoiding people and discriminating against others for something which they can't help.

You can only pass them on by actual contact. An open sore has to TOUCH YOUR BABY, not breathe the same air.

If you are super paranoid about it you can make sure nobody kisses or touches your baby, but refusing to be served by someone in a cafe is ridiculous.

Sorry, I know you'd like them all to wear a yellow star & be rounded into ghettos but it's not going to happen.

^disgraceful comparison. You should be ashamed of yourself. Absolutely disgusting. Wash your fucking mouth out with soap. Yellow star indeed. You absolute pig.

REPLY

Why? You clearly think "the infected" shouldn't be allowed to work in aged care or cafes, walk past you or touch you. I think that attitude is just as disgusting.

As long as they don’t ask for a kiss as payment, or lick your food, you’re probably pretty safe 😂

Okay you have some issues with all that mess you just wrote, but antiretrovirals are brilliant these days so I wouldnt be put off getting into a relationship with someone with HIV.

If my kids turns out to be a lesbian/ gay/ bi whatever they call it these days, I would accept their choices but teach them to be responsible with whom they chooses to make out with and be sexual with. AS ANY GOOD PARENT SHOULD TEACH THEIR KIDS.
Or precautions etc and testing can be done to screen partners before you have intimacy.

It's one thing to discriminate and another to teach you kids to be responsible about their lives and their health. TWO SEPERATE THINGS. But yes I tell my kids never to do drugs or drink or smoke and they would be raised well enough to know that those are not things I deem acceptable, and hopefully avoid them or be sensible if they will have a few drinks. I can't stop them living their life but I can make sure I give them as much advice, common sense and talk to them about precautions and right from wrong. SO if the time ever came they can make their own choices which hopefully would be the right one, eg say no to drugs!
Ultimately I cant dictate their life or control their life once they hit 18 they are legally an adult.

Discriminating against someone is totally different.

What’s that got to do with the price of eggs? Someone with an active disease is more likely to make you sick than someone who simply doesn’t have immunity to a disease. We don’t have vaccines for every illness, so even if someone has no symptoms do we walk around thinking everyone is unknowingly spreading disease?Unless someone is actually sick with a disease, they can’t give it to you..... also the largest population of under vaccinated, non immune (it can wear off or just not take) is adults, particularly older ones. Oh, and before you start shouting accusations, me and my kids are vaccinated 🙄

ANSWER

Look up the health direct fact sheet. 80% of adults already carry the virus. With many of them their immune system keeps away blisters. The virus can also be contagious when an individual doesn't have blisters. So no I wouldn't be afraid of something there is an 80% chance I already have and that I could potentially get from any seemingly healthy person.
