Casual conversion

Answered 4 years ago

Any one converted to part time from a regular casual job? I know it’s a strange time to ask- but I received a blanket email from HR about this a year or so ago saying my contract was eligible for this, but never followed up since I assumed it was an error. I work in a school- casual, regular hours during school term, for a number of years. I have googled this, but my questions are: do you expect a drop in income in liew of the part time status and leave?Would i be eligible since I don’t work holidays? Would love some feedback, even if it’s advice on where to find more info? Thank you.. I’ve given a lot to my work and I am suspicious that the culture is trying to keep me and others in the dark sometimes, bit worrie about approaching HR at this time

If its permanent part time, it gives you the stability of permanency, sick leave, annual leave, and possibly an improvement to your super contribution from the company.
Its also a stepping stone to higher level, or longer hour positions.
You must talk to your Union. (And I have been a long term manager, yet I still think this is important.)

You could ask for part time. Still get sick pay & holidays

Casuals get about 25% loading (depending on the industry i guess) so you'd lose that. But you'd gain sick leave and annual leave pay. You probably still wouldn't get paid over the holidays as you're not working those hours.
Do you have any HR or union to discuss anything with?
