We went to a wedding a few years ago. Was family. Their budget was $5,000. Was just a marquee in a paddock, with a spit, and just music playing over speakers and I have to say it was the funniest wedding we've been too!!! A few weeks before we went to a very very fancy wedding, fine dining. They spent well over $50,000 and it was so boring. And we left starving. My little piece of duck didn't fill me 😂

I got married at the registry office, went to the pub straight after across the road and then had the “reception” at my favourite restaurant. I don’t know what you consider budget ... dinner cost us $6000 but we were drinking $200-$300 bottles of wine. There were 10 of us at dinner and that includes my two teenage kids. Fabulous night though! Had so much fun.

Wow. I couldn't imagine wasting that much money on glorified grape juice 😂

If they can afford it, why not?

And it’s still cheap compared to most weddings

Ours was around 5k. Make invitations and place cards etc (spotlight is good!) we had catering which was the most expensive thing. Dress was very simple and $600 from a local dressmaker. Made the cakes, one bridesmaid/best man (we paid for their outfits) and no hens or bucks, we just think it’s a really outdated and pointless thing.

^ Shit sorry. I meant $4000, not $40,000. I'd love to spend that much on a wedding but I don't work and hubby is an uber driver 💩

$4000 is enough to have a decent wedding on a budget

What sorts of things did you do?

We were very fortunate that my parents own a beautiful old farmhouse. We're country folk so we had a pig on a spit and people sat on bales of hay, that sort of thing. Best day ever. Id suggest looking on ebay, etsy, gumtree etc. Good luck 🥰

I went to a garden wedding, instead of a reception they had afternoon tea.
A small group of friends made the food. I don't know how much it cost, but it wasn't much.
They hired tables, chairs plus covers (not for everyone just a few), the flowers were bought from a supermarket and arranged on the tables.
We ate sandwiches, scones and cupcakes, tea coffee and champagne to drink.
There was no venue hire it was at a local park.
It was a really nice wedding.

It's one day. Why spend so much, when it can go towards a house deposit.

Our wedding was under 10k, in 2004, including dresses, photography, hair & make-up (professional).
Garden ceremony, reception in hall with caters, friends as DJ & MC, friends & their friends cars, did stationery & bomboniers ourselves, friend did flowers & cake. Friends were paid or given gifts. Looking back, we would have preferred a hotel/venue reception.

Shop around for your items, don't mentioned 'wedding' unless you have to. See what you can do yourself, eg try vista print.
