I got breakfast in bed and I stayed there until lunchtime, then my daughter walked to the beach and along it And back together took over an hour after which I did some French lessons and write in my gratitude journal while my husband worked in the yard. He is out doing the shop to come home and cook for me. Pretty much the same as everyday!

I'm relaxing, And having a day to myself. I will spend time with the kids, but not looking after them, no cooking etc.
We made a rule a few years ago that mothers day/father's day was about our family only. I choose what we do on mother's day, and my husband picks what we do on father's day. That was after a year of rushing around to see both sides of the family.

Nothing! These days are so commercialised and fake.
You shouldn't need a day to remind yourself to pay some attention to your mother! Jeez

I agree. I read Mother's Day was started by a woman who lost her own mother, to remind people to show some appreciation. No gifts. Apparently she is appalled by what it's become. Unfortunately, it's been destroyed by commercialism. Like everything else.

Personally, I'm sick of the pressure of all these imported/commercialised holidays holidays. There seems to be a new one every year!

Since QLD has said a 5 people family can visit another house we're expected to be at my parents house by 10am, for lunch. Then we'll have to scuttle to spend the afternoon paying homage to MIL (who I despise). Not doing so means tears, fights, and years of being reminded how rude I am.

I actually thought for once I might actually get mother's day for me - like our siblings who live elsewhere do. I hate it.

I think you’re coming down with something. It’s best you stay home in bed. You wouldn’t want to pass your illness on to your in-laws and parents would you ? 😉

Fuck that. She had her mother’s days when her kids were little, she’s not in the trenches anymore- so unless she is doing a lot for your kids or you and her husband, she is not mothering. She needs to pass the torch. My mother in law gets crappy homemade craft from my kids and maybe a cheap candle or hand cream whenever we see her after Mother’s Day. She does nothing for her family whatsoever (and did the absolute minimum for her kids when they were kids), so she doesn’t need to highjack Mother’s Day celebrations.

Haha. Yes perhaps I should feel unwell. I'd still have to be reminded over & over about it tho. For years. I wish I could convince my DH to move away!!
