Anyone here a painter or know a painter? Need some advice and cant find the right answer online

Answered 4 years ago

I want to repaint my metal gutters. We built our house 20 years ago. I painted the gutters and downpipes burgundy, it is still in really good condition and doesn't even look very faded, but, i just dont like the colour anymore, i want to do it all black. What i want to know is, can i just clean the gutters and downpips and paint over with black or do i need to use primer then paint? There is NO flaking or peeling etc, i literally just want a different colour after 20 years. Qll the info and youtube clips seem to be on either brand new gutters or old gutters that are flaking and peeling or colourbond gutters etc. Mine are metal, previously painted, in perfect condition, i just want yo change the colour. Was thinking of asking at bunnings, but they don't always give the best/accurate advice or don't listen properly to what im actually asking or wanting to do - especially if it's not something stock standard.

As long as you clean down before painting which you are doing then you are fine to repaint . Acrylic paint does not need sanding to "key" the surface. (Painter 40 years experience)

I would suggest a actual paint shop over Bunnings. They generally know their stuff a bit better. I imagine if there is no metal showing then only an undercoat will do but I'm pretty sure you can get them with primer in it as well so that's always an option. Good luck with it 😊

Ring a paint store for advice and they'll tell you the right way to do it as opposed to Bunnings people because they literally do paint for a job they'll know the answer
