Ok, I have my insta feed full of mums nailing this homeschool thing, doing amazing craft with their well behaved little ones. Now, share with me your real life snippets - the ones that do not make it to Instagram.

Mine... Let the kids watch Bluey so I could finish my coffee in peace.

We're half an hour into home learning. Fuck this shit. Apparently all 3 of my kids need the ipad for their activities. Wtf. And I have no idea what they're meant to be learning about. This is the exact reason I never wanted to be a teacher, because having to teach kids school work is bullshit. When this is all over, and I can hug people again, I'm going to hug their teachers, and beg them on my knees to never ask me to do this again. Please, don't leave us. Shits hard. Mummy's too damn dumb for teaching school.

I’m working from home, kids keep themselves occupied, why shouldn’t they? They’re kids for goodness sake, full of imagination & ideas. In NZ we’re on school holidays now but when the new term starts I don’t really care to push a whole lot of crap at them it’s no biggie at this stage in their schooling if they miss a bit, no one will notice when they’re back, they really won’t.

I got 3 in primary.. I admit I have already had to google a year 5 maths question 😂😂 been so long I forgot about the extra 0 ! And got stumped on 'i' sounds for a kindy - lucky his big sister explained it to me 😂😂 we might be in trouble!

I find the school work has been hard and they need guidance or too easy and they are done in seconds... Trying to get in a system so I can do laps and help them all but I can't help one with out the next kid interrupting 😂😳

So because there is no pressure for this week I keep just making them do my own tasks like cook lunch together then little one can draw a pic and write about it , next one up does a poster with info, oldest had to write a method with pics... Doing the same topic they helped each other and were all happily distracted for over 2 hrs (including cooking)

Your first few days and weeks in a crisis are crucial, and you should make ample room to allow for a mental adjustment. It is perfectly normal and appropriate to feel bad and lost during this initial transition. Consider it a good thing that you are not in denial, and that you are allowing yourself to work through the anxiety. No sane person feels good during a global disaster, so be grateful for the discomfort of your sanity. At this stage, I would focus on food, family, friends, and maybe fitness. (You will not become an Olympic athlete in the next two weeks, so don’t put ridiculous expectations on your body.)

My 3 high schoolers are fending for themselves.
I’m a frontline healthcare worker, hubby in an essentIal service. Neither of us in a position to take time off.
Trusting my kids have got their shit together enough to get their work done as directed.
We couldn’t have done this with younger kids, that would made life a whole lot more challenging!
Stay strong mummas & daddy’s, you are doing a great job!

I don’t schools are expecting us to “homeschool”. This is just a week or two before school holidays, I believe the schools will roll out distance education on term 2, and that needs little input from parents, apart from making them get ready and sitting in front of the f***ing computer.
I even heard a rumour that abc broadcast would have channels dedicated to each year/level?

We are taking it each day as it comes. My year 7 is doing work at her own pace and on her own laptop. My year 2 and 4ers are just doing anything they please really. Plenty of exercise, a bit of reading and some interactive learning are so far our favourites. Their teachers have said in emails home not to force school work while they are adjusting to the changes and the stresses that they are currently facing.

Basically my 2 year old has been watching wiggles all morning because the activities my 5 year olds school has set mostly equire him to voice record him doing them so I have to keep my toddler quiet. After about the 5th attempt on the first activity I came to the conclusion that I cannot try and teach my son while keeping my toddler quiet so I hope the teacher likes my toddler singing voice because thats what is in the background of my sons recordings. You can still hear my 5 year olds voice and him doing the tasks just with a little background singing hahaha

2 hours on screens. Now the kids have been playing with water in the trampoline. More they are making balloon babies. Full balloon with water and draw a face! Then make them a bed. Laugh whenever someone drops their baby! Kids are 7 9 10 and loving it. One chopped 4 beans and then hid. Eldest did some homework. Youngest traced some letters. Middle one whinged and then had a game of rumi king with me. It’s now 4 pm. Hopefully some reading will get done today too!

My kids are Year 5 and 9. Their schools have everything set up for them online. They log and they work through the list they have for the day. I am so thankful my kids are older and can work independently. My hat’s off to you ladies having to teach younger kids. I could do it if I needed to but I’m pretty sure there would be no perfect Instagram stories and most likely a few tears from all us. Do what you have to do to get through this. A little extra tv or unstructured activities isn’t going to do any long lasting harm.

Today Ive let my kids watch tv for 2 hours so far. And I don't even care. We all need to stay sane during this isolation business, my husband is still working (fire fighter, so essential) so it's just me and the kids at home. And today is a "do what you want" day. Hahaha
