In what way? If you’re asking is it a diagnosable and recognized condition then the answer is yes. However, people are more than their diagnosis and much can be done to work with these issues. Having ODD doesn’t define a person, and there is hope for change. Good luck.

Yes. It's a genuine diagnosis. If you read an account by someone who lives with it, it's easier to understand.

I was also reading an article recently that said it's over-diagnosed. Lots of comments from the public experiences reinforced that. I agree. I've lost count of the amount of people who say their selectively poorly behaved child has ODD. It demeans belief & acceptance for those genuinely struggling with it.

I don’t think this is a fair statement. How can you judge and determine if a child is poorly behaved vs genuinely experiencing ODD on face value? While I agree that the condition is likely over diagnosed (as was, ADHD in the 90s) to say that lots of parents are using it to as an excuse for selectively poor behaviour isn’t helpful. We need to show compassion and understanding to other parents, not judgement.
