Depression medication

Answered 3 years ago

Has anyone had any success with depression medication or did it just make things worse/no help at all? I’d love to hear some experiences.

My daughter is on fluoxetine for severe anxiety and moderate depression - she's been on it now for about 5 months and it has helped her tremendously - her GP monitors it closely and she is also regularly seeing a clinical psychologist. It's been amazing for her - she has her life back. Of course she still has her tough days - she still gets the occasional anxiety episode or wakes up feeling low, but it's no longer ruling her life and she has the tools to be able to get herself out of those low times.

Medication can go a long way to help. But overcoming depression is more than just taking a pill. It takes time. You need to find the cause of your depression. Engage is therapy of some kind..

There are many types of medications and combinations of medications that help treat depression and there is not a one size fits all approach.. If you take something that doesn’t work, then you shouldn’t dismiss all antidepressants. First thing to do, go chat to your GP. Discuss your options.
