Is this weird or normal?

Answered 5 years ago

My son was invited to a birthday party. He told me the birthday child wanted a Star Wars lego. Fine by me. Birthday child's mum messaged all parents for the party with photos of the Star Wars lego sets he already had (which were a lot, and all the smaller cheaper sets too) so he didn't get double ups. A bit weird but sure. My hubby took my child to choose the lego and took him to the party. 3 hours post party I get a msg from the mum asking to please give her the receipt for the lego set as it is a double up and she wants to exchange it. Husband of course has no idea where he put it but eventually digs it out of the rubbish. Is this all a bit weird or is it normal to be so specific about your child's gifts from a school party? I have never ever had that before and I most definitely wouldn't ask parents for receipts to exchange things but maybe I have been doing it wrong?

Yeah that's weird. I have a weird present story too, my daughter's friend admired my daughters dress and asked for one the same for her birthday, she asked at school pick up and the mum was happy with this, my daughter's drwss was purple but there was only blue left in the friend's size of the same dress so we got it anyway and the mother wouldn't accept it at the party because "girls don't wear blue in our family".. 😳.. they were 5... the little girl cried for like an hour because she wasn't allowed to have it and my daughter cried because she thought she ruined her friend's birthday.

Some people are so f@#cking weird. Seriously where do these kinds of women get off thinking they can treat other people like that. You'd think they'd have some shame.

The girl sounds like she was so happy with it too, I'm sure some people try and turn their kids into little cunts.

Ignorant, ungrateful and rude mother. I just can't believe the lack of social skills and conscience of these people. Her daughter will never forget her mother stopping her receiving the very gift she wanted. Nor the embarrassment of her friend (the gift giver).
Believe me, I went through something that severely embarrassed me, done by my mother, when I was about the same age. I have never forgot it, and of how ashamed it made me feel.

Really weird. They should just save the double up and gift it at the next school kids birthday party

Thanks for that, I thought maybe I was the weird one. We have moved interstate and I find people here a bit odd sometimes. Very entitled and selfish and rude. They do and say things that I consider so rude, but they are mostly all like it so maybe its me?

Perth people are so up themselves! And I say that as a fellow West Aussie 😂. I live in the bush and I used to work at the local roadhouse, you could always tell Perth people because they were so rude and demanding. I blame the FIFO lifestyle. The rest of us are good I promise 😂

I also blame Bali. Its a second home to Perthians, Balinese treat them like Gods and they return the favour by treating them like shit and they bring this entitlement home. Get tougher Bali 😂

I've lived in perth for 32 years (since i was 8) and have NEVER been to bali and neither myself nor my husband have been fifo workers. Pretty offensive generalised statements by some

I know, sorry. But thats all we see in the country. Adults that behave like children, I am in a group for retail workers and the complaints about Perth customers are really out there, so I'm not the only one that thinks like this! Remember the dash cam recording that got around not long ago of the lady kicking over the womans coffee cup? Thats pretty much what I see when I think of Perth people😂 Obviously not everyone is like that and some suburbs are worse than others. The roadhouse is on the way to Exmouth and surrounds which is quite popular for Perth people. They will be coming in droves again very soon.

A friend of mine takes her kids to big W just before their birthday and gets them to pick out what they want. If people ask what to get she can tell them a specific gift so there are no double ups. Maybe she needs to do this.

Weird and straight up rude!! Kids birthday parties are meant to be about the kids having fun not a gift grab. That mother needs to learn some manners or else her kid won't have anyone showing up to future parties.

Nah. That’s is weird. Throw a party, expect double ups. Comes with the territory. Especially if asking for something specific. Maybe asking for gift vouchers could have prevented this. However, even that is off. SOunds like the party was a big fat gift grab TBH.

She sounds precious. Lego is Lego. We all end up standing on it and screaming out fuck. Doesn't matter which box it comes from.
