I’m about to come off the pill after 20 years. What can I expect.

Answered 4 years ago

My husband had a vasectomy 3 months ago. I’m excited to be coming off the pill. While it’s been good to me, I do hate taking unnecessary medications. My doc said there will be no difference coming off it but I find that hard to believe. I’ve been taking the pill for so long so I’m sure there’ll be some side effects to finally coming off it.

I highly recommend a book called the period repair manual! Full of really useful information regarding having a “real” menstrual cycle again.

About 5 days after I stopped taking mine I had my withdrawal period which lasted about 3 days and then my period returned back to the heavy and painful thing i struggled with pre pill BUT I have found my hair loss is insane and I'm getting a little bit of acne, I never had problems when I was on the pill, only got on it to help with flow and pain

It's alright, your hair will be fine. I've been through it too. Plus we are mammals so we need to shed our coats for a better coat for the upcoming change of season.

Thanks everyone. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see. I’m just hoping my periods are regular and my moods don’t change.

Took it for 15 years & no side effects coming off

I was on it for maybe 15 years (one of the strongest ones you can get). I stopped it to have our first child. There was nothing significant that occurred (I expected something significant). I fell pregnant within 3-4 months of coming off of it.

I was on the pill for a similar amount of time and your doctor is right. Nothing happened except my first period, which as expected came right away was a little longer than usual.

^ they did, right away. My cycles have always been regular even before the pill.
