Fiji holiday

Answered 4 years ago

We've done Bali, Thailand and Fiji is next on our list, if you've been how much did the holiday cost roughly? Family of 5.
Did you enjoy it? Im assuming it's cleaner so risk of getting sick is lower? I got sick in both Bali and Thailand so not keen for that again lol.
We know it will be more than previous places which is fine. Not after recommendations for other destinations, our list is big enough lol.
And yes I know we can't travel right now and won't for a while, just like to have some positivity and something to look forward too eventually.

No, not triggered. Please be a little more worldly and a whole lot more respectful. And if you can't be- well, then stick to Bali.

Imo country counting is bogan, not where you go. I say this as someone who has travelled a fair bit.

I say 'done' because when we've been somewhere & feel we've experienced the country, we don't revisit. We crave new destinations with the time and money we have to travel. It's just a phrase.

Lol. I agree. Snobs who brag & pretend they're better than others for having travelled are the worst. I admit I did to someone once to shut them up. Pulled their nose down quite a few degrees very quickly. I enjoyed that!!

There are many great deals now, which you can book for later/when able. Have a look in your Sunday paper or visit a travel center as they have so much knowledge about the whole package you will need. Wonderful to have something to look forward to, have the best time.

Sorry you can't afford it, I suggest you seek some help both mentally and financially. Not a good way to live being bitter about other people's success. I wish you well xx

Not the OP, but we've gotten the arrogant/rich comment for traveling for years from people who couldn't (or wouldn't) action it themselves. To the point we started hiding it.

No one wants to hear that we've sacrificed a lot to pay for it because it's our priority. I'm really sick of it, tbh.

^Theres still an element of good fortune / privilege to that too. I wouldnt judge or call it arrogant but some people just dont have the money regardless of what they sacrifice.

Always wanted to go to Fiji. I was promised a trip if I beat anorexia never happened (the trip) despite recovering. One day I hope to go sit by a pool confident and happy in my skin. Soaking up the sun and maybe even have a drink or two. One can dream.... I say go for it if you can afford it. You only live once.

I hope you get there. It might be out of line saying it, but if it helps, we found the secret to travel was making it a priority & saving for it over everyday spending on stuff we didn't need.

Good luck. And congratulations on your achievement. You deserve that holiday.

I'll also add we've done Australia aswell from Cairns down and the other side aswell. So looking outside of Australia (tropical) that isn't too far on a plane. Yet. Want the kids to be older before we do Europe etc.

When you say Done does it mean you flew to destination, went to a few tourist traps, restaurants, walked around the main street, went back to your hotel? Because Australia is a very big place with alot of states & towns to explore. I've seen alot but I would never be so arrogant to say I've Done Australia.

Being someone who has travelled and lived is more places than most people here, “done” is definitely travel speak that I have heard often when referring to having travelled to places.. I really wouldn’t take it to mean anything of anything,

It depends on what you are looking for in a holiday. If you just want to go to a resort and not do much else then Fiji is a great option. If you are looking for a bit of culture and shopping as well then I wouldn’t recommend. I enjoyed my holiday to Fiji but it’s not somewhere I’d really want to go again. Others, on the other hand, love it and ho again and again.

Yeah we're looking at a relaxing one this time. Every other time we are busy from the get go so we want a week or whatnot just relaxing by the pool, letting the kids swim and play etc.

Then Fiji is a good option for you. As others have said, find a place that has all inclusive or half board. Most of the resorts are spread out so you can’t just go off to another resort for dinner or even to a restaurant like you would in Asia. The beaches are okay, I wouldn’t rate them any better than those in a Thailand or Bali. The people are friendly. There isn’t much to do except relax.

I didn’t find the food very nice, but of course goes without saying that the beaches and people are just amazing. Lovely with kids, so welcoming etc

OP, Fiji is fine if you're looking for relaxation. For adventure, not so much. There's some ridiculous deals atm for future use. There will be once the flights reopen officially as well. Fijians love children so it's a fantastic family destination. Not particularly clean though, but it's a developing nation so expected.

I'd suggest Coral Coast or islands (islands often require an overnight stay on Denarau each way due to ferry times). Imo Denarau is horrible. It's man made & convenient, but there's no beach, no culture.

When you're looking to test the water for a little more adventure I highly recommend NZ. So easy to get around & so much natural beauty & adventure on every level. Out of every country I've been to, it's my favourite - with & without kids!!

Enjoy. I'm heading to Japan to take this year's holiday when it reopens!!

I didn't really enjoy Fiji, but I'm more of an adventure traveler & South Pacific is more for resorts and packaged activities.

If you do go, consider the islands or Coral Coast. I didn't like Denarau Island as it doesn't even have a real beach. It's not very nice, tbh.

I haven't been to Thailand or Bali but Fiji is much like most developing nations I've visited. Maybe a little cleaner than Vanuatu, but that's debatable. If you want clean and tropical, New Caledonia is nicer. Very expensive though, and also a bit of a yawn outside the resorts.

If you want a little bit of family adventure close to home, consider a motorhome holiday in NZ. That place has choices for everyone & some of the freedom camping spots are glorious. You can go at your own pace. If motorhome's don't work, try car/tourist cabins in caravan parks. Fully self contained.

And i saw your Europe comment - a big yes to 'when they're older'. We did it before kids, will do it when they're older. It's too difficult with kids.

Sorry if it's tmi. I'm a travel tragic. Can't help it. I miss talking about travelling. Had to cancel our own trip to Japan this year!!
