Quitting smoking.

Have just found out I am 13 weeks pregnant and want to quit smoking. I have cut back from a pack a day to 15 a day. How do I stop all together?

Just ease off. Gradually get less and less as the days go by. Quitting completely at once can cause more harm than good.

OP Thank you for a real response. I will cut back one every couple of days.

3 pregnancies and I have never had a dr agree with cold turkey either. It stresses your body too much in one hit. Good luck

So you've smoked for all three pregnancies? Fu****g gross bitch

That's fu***d up. It stresses your body out? Umm don't you think the chemicals from the cigarettes would be stressing out your baby? The selfishness of addicts infuriates me.

I know and the way they try and justify it! So gross and embarrassing. Just feel sorry for the kids.

Thank f**k we've got so many doctors on the forum tonight. Look at the science, not the propaganda. You're like sheep, following blindly what the media tells you. Look at the science and come back to me educated.

I feel really sorry for the kids. Trust me, their kids will hate her for this when they are older. I'm chronic asthmatic because my mum smoked a pack a day when she was pregnant with me and continued to smoke a pack a day inside when I was a baby and kid. I forgive her though because back then there was no information on the harms of cigarette smoking, if anything they promoted smoking.
These days there is NO EXCUSE to put your baby in harms way because there is so much info out there telling us how dangerous it is.

^hahahahahaha oh so cigarettes are good for you are they?! Classic. Man I'm such a sheep for not smoking!! Pretty sure the sheep in this scenario are the smokers! Thanks for the laugh though 😂

Ok I must be a sheep then. Baaaaaaaaa

This really irritates me! I was a pack a day smoker and when I got pregnant I quit, cold turkey, because that is what was best for my baby! It's not about you anymore or your stress, or your cravings! Put you baby first and stop being so fu****g weak!

Thank you for all the helpful advice. Reading through this I know that you can't ask for help on quitting smoking with out some bi****s getting on their high horses. I would like to thank the person or people who have stood up for me too, I know what it is doing which is why I cut back so much. I am only worried about quitting not judgement, so water off a ducks back. Just remember judge and jury that you may make it harder for the next person who isn't as strong as me to reach out, I hope you think about what that could mean. Thanks again everyone who offered advice and support.

Read the Easyway to Quit Smoking by Allen Carr. That is what got me to quit. I was a pack a day and had been smoking for 20 years. I quit with no issues. No withdrawal, no stress. I literally just smoked my last smoke and that was it. You can download for under $10. Seriously, it's a miracle.

 Ok thanks Allan Carr.

I quit cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant. It wasn't as hard as i thought. I just kept thinking of my beautiful baby growing and I have never had a cigarette or craving for one since... That would be nearly two years ago now.
You can do it xx

Exactly. You would hope love for her baby would be stronger than a craving for a cancer stick. Some people have no willpower.

Have you seen those smoking ads on television and the packers? Whatever chemical in those smokes that causes that to adults is going to your baby. Who would do this to their child in this day and age when they know this informatIon?

 Uneducated bogans

Seeing women pregnant and smoking makes me so mad. Same as seeing people driving while smoking and having their kids/babies in their car. Pigs.

 Yep

Write down pros and cons of smoking. And the terrible things it does to your unborn baby and refer back to this list when you are tempted to smoke.

Think about the times you like to smoke the most and avoid those situations. Find other ways to deal with stress.

Sip water. Deep breathe. Brush your teeth when you really feel like a smoke.

all the money you spend on cigs each week put aside and buy something for your baby.

Take note of all the positive changes of not smoking and refer back to this when you really feel like smoking.

And remember the biggest positive is extending your life, and for the sake of your health because you want to spend quality time with your child. And give them the best start in life. And be around to watch them grow, and be around to be a grandmother.

Good luck, giving up is hard. But you can do it.

Congrats on cutting back. If you're in Australia you can ring the Quitline 13 78 48 for a heap of info and support, or visit their website. There is a free pregnancy app called quit for you, quit for 2 as well. Good luck!

Support is important. My hubby knows how terrible his self control is so he gives me every cent he makes and when he wants a smoke I don't hive him the money and help him find something else to do. He quit cold turkey and is going on 4 months smoke free :). Yes it's been a long and hard journey, but it's been for the better. Good luck :). Oh and him giving me his money was his idea 👍

Try and make the time in between smokes longer just keep pushing it out gradually. Don't spend much time with any smoker friends or family. Good luck!

Revolting. You now know you are preg but you continue to smoke. Your kid will resent you when it's older and has chronic asthma and it finds out you smoked while pregnant.

She's trying to give up. Did you not read her question?

Of course I did. My point is she's still smoking. Any person with half a brain would quit cold turkey for the sake of their unborn child. Yeah you will have withdrawal symptoms, so what?! It's better than harming this innocent child. Your child comes first, no if's or buts.
Exactly. Disgusting. It's not about "trying" to quit or cut down. She's already pregnant. She can't smoke anymore full stop. She's already poisoned her baby for 13 weeks.

I read she wants to give up. She is asking for help.

Any turkey with half a brain as you put it, would listen to medical advice and Not quit cold turkey as the withdrawals in one go can cause a miscarriage easily. Judgement is just your way of making you feel like the better person.
Oh does she "want" to quit. Well isnt her baby so lucky!!
Lol irony. Pretty sure any turkey with half a brain wouldn't smoke to begin with.

The smoker is a fu****g turkey for smoking in the first place, even pre baby. The fu****g addicts all stick up for each other, just like all the dole bludgers do too.
