If you are hosting Christmas Day dinner or lunch, what’s on the menu? Will you be making it buying the food? Please share your ideas and recipes

I am hosting dinner for the first time and was thinking of having some cooked, cold prawns, salad, cold sliced ham and then maybe a BBQ with eye fillet steak and sausages for the children. I’ll most likely just buy dessert. Does that sounds ok?

We are on a tight budget and hosting Xmas lunch, I don’t cook well so dread it. I’m thinking of doing

1x cooked pre stuffed turkey (ready made from supermarket probably not cost effective)
Prawns / or salmon
Another meat of some sort

2x salads, potato and a green salad.

That’s pretty much it 😝

Normally we have a traditional lunch but I’m hosting this year and so doing it a little different, as I hate spending half the day cooking. Still having turkey but going to cook it the day before and serve it cold with some ham. Will make salads, have some crusty bread rolls, and traditional plum pudding for dessert.

I think what you have planned is fine.

for the main meal I do prawns, ham, turkey, other seafood, pasta salad, potato salad, noodle salad, garden salad, bread rolls, pav, triffle and plum pudding.
snacks include fruit, rum balls, apricot balls, white Christmas, fudge, different types of cheese, crackers, salami ect.

Sounds delicious. That's pretty much what we do. We emphasize on the salads as it's a hot day. Mayby throw some fresh crusty rolls in there. Merry Christmas xx

Prawns, chicken, ham, turkey breast, pasta salad, potato salad, 4 bean mix salad & rolls. Trifle for dessert. There is also the Xmas fare like mince pies, shortbread, white Xmas etc. You could probably get away without the BBQ with what you're offering, if you don't want the extra expense.
