So if I’m by myself I have to order, with no table number and then hope there’s a table by the time my food arrives and they’ll magically know where to take it?

Yep.

You know what’s more rude than that? Going up to order and not knowing what want and holding everyone up. You sit at your table, you decide off the menu and then go order 🤷‍♀️

How is that rude??
I often do that because when I order it helps the staff if I know where I'm sitting.
I think it's rude to move someone's belongings.

Nothing more annoying than a person being served is like "Ummmmmm I'll have the parmi, no make it a steak, no just the parmi, sorry make it a steak - medium rare with mushroom sauce on the side. Sorry no just give me the fish and chips. Does it come with a salad? What's in the salad? You know what, can you just double the chips and no salad? Thankyou. I'll also have a coke please. Make it a diet coke. Do you have caffeine free? Look I'll just have a sprite
Faaaaaaaaark 😡

How is it rude? Just ask nicely first

I dont think it's rude at all! If it looks like 2 of the 4 seats are occupied, you politely ask! If they say it's for someone, you smile and say no worries and move on.

Not if you ask first.
