I read an article this morning explaining that students are grouped so that there is an intelligent English speaking student grouped with non English speaking students and it is left up to the English speaker to tutor the others. This in in regards to group assignments. Very unfair on some students. An interesting read.

Unis want them to come because their fees are triple that of Australian students. They must use tutors and google translate for stuff they don't understand? I don't know.

Same as when we travel overseas and drive. Common sense plays a large part. It's not fool proof of course.

The signs are more symbols, most people would know a stop sign without knowing the language. Even toddlers could learn what a stop sign is without knowing how to read it. It's a bit like how everyone can recognise maccas.

At my uni, they are testing a program that requires those students who have poor written and spoken English skills to be tutored and take helper classes.

Just saying that a ticket machine isn't working may not be enough information for them to base a decision on. Perhaps they were waiting for further elaboration - such as "so in this circumstance you are able to travel without validating a ticket", or "so in this circumstance you must do X/y/z to travel". Just because they may not have encountered the scenario before does not make them inferior.

They are full fee paying students. Universities will let them graduate as long as they’re getting their money.
