Would I be an asshole if I change my name legally/professionally and only told my husband (whilst still using my birth name as my "preferred name")?

My parents gave me a super odd name. Like similar to Peter Pepper-Piper kind of alliteration and cringe. When I got married, I took my husbands last name, as it was SLIGHTLY less cringe than my maiden name. Think like Peter Pepperson instead (fuck this sucks that I need to do this anonymously). Still lots of alliteration, and a comical feel to it. It's been holding me back professionally. I've actually had interviewers say they didn't believe it was real and they had to see for themselves. I get so many creeps on social media who think its a stripper name or that I'm an insta-thot because haha, my name sounds funny (idk, men are fucking weird). And I'm tired of it.
My parents LOVE my name. So do my extended family. It's a hodgepodge of family names mixed together to honour various relatives. And yeah it would be cutesy on a kid, but I'm an adult.
Would it be shitty to change it secretly so my resume gets positive attention and not just thrown out and seen as a joke?

Can you shorten your name or use your middle name (if you have one). I worked as a medical receptionist and there are lots of people that go by their middle name or an entirely different name than what is on their Medicare cards.

My curiosity is open to your assistance with this.
I'm 30, and I'm trying to get into some kind of high risk work (forklift driving, civil labouring - loaders/diggers/etc) or office work, or some kind of traineeship in the humanitarian sector. Its a toss up between "make all the money!" and "take care of people because I love humans".

Ok I've sat on Deborah for a couple of hours, and whilst it sounds very professional, it really isn't for me. But I do appreciate your help in this.
Feel free to chuck any other suggestions at me you think of

I'd potentially go for a unisex name, especially if you want to get into male dominated jobs. Eg Ashley, Cameron, Riley, Darcy, Charlie.

This is why many famous people have stage names. They wouldn’t make it with their real names. Do it.

^😂 no. But I'm enjoying your random name additions. Please go on.
On the very slim chance you guess it (very very slim), I'll never admit to it here. At least one of my sisters knows about this site (SHE has a normal name!)

I wish I knew what your name is because this has me curious.

But in answer to your question, you live one life, you have one shot at making it happy. If this is what you need to achieve that then go for it.

I see no problem with this- I mean do people in media actually have real names these days?! No. I think you don’t have to lie to your parents, but just be truthful...but that’s because I can be quite blunt and say things how I feel, it depends on your circumstances. Definitely nothing to worry about and if it’s holding you back then definitely do it- stand up for yourself x

Lots of people go by a professional name. I dont see an issue with it. I grew up with a super difficult to spell Greek name so I totally get how much of a pain it might be.

Thank you! This is the argument I'll bring out first if I'm ever busted. That its just a "professional name" - but not my "realllllll naaaame" 😉
