Everyone hates her because they are selfish and don't want to make changes to change things for their children and future generations.
So instead, we attack her, and keep on living like the selfish, greedy, gluttonous, capitalist pigs we are.

Probably because climate change is still a theory rather than established fact, it is heavily laced with altered facts, acknowledged flaws and inaccurate models, and the expectation that my cost of living will disproportionately increase compared to the effect it Might have in a flawed model. Then you couple in a high degree of manipulative media techniques, and an almost zealot level of engagement when a person questions "the facts" or " the science", and some people just see it all as destructive hype. Greta is chosing to be the face of this movement, confront people who don't agree with her perspective.... I think some people are simply playing the game from their side.
When climate change passes the scientific method they taught in year 8 science, and also passes the "pub test", or "sniff test". Then people will be happy, but the Greta will be the same as everyone else...

How much more proof do you need before you consider it fact? The data has been there for years. Like it or not, the climate is changing. Some of it can be attributed to the natural cycle but not all of it.

Whether theory or fact, I think I simply find her annoying because I find her quite ranty. I'd be telling kids to stay at school, donate a dollar or a fiver to the the cause and help put more research into practical things such as better biodegradable plastics and fast fashion that is clogging up our landfill and oceans. I've only just gotten more into recycling and was amazed at the food packaging and parcel wrap etc. that actually can't go in the recycling bin. It's only certain plastics. Yes there are bigger issues to do with pollution etc. Calling on the world leaders just seemed indulged and entitled of her. Use your power and message to set the example to kids your age, call on the worlds best scientists start developing / finding practical solutions that day to day people can do. There are more 'average' humans than world leaders, big change can be evoked just through making it easier for the simple every day person to recycle & access more environmental friendly products.

and if a day off school to 'protest' was necessary...instead go and plant trees - pick up rubbish - encouraging her peers to develop funky cool ad campaigns / spreading the message about excess / waste, particular with fashion / technology. Yes the latest iphone is out...but do you actually need it? etc etc. Even to kids recycling toys etc. There is so much plastic crap that just goes to landfill.

Climate change is a theory?
But God is real?

I think part of it is that she is seen as attacking the leaders of western nations, but not the leaders of the countries that are creating most of the plastic and general refuse ocean pollution that is acidifying the oceans, creating massive chemical air pollution from industry, or burning their tropical forests that are the lungs of the world. (Indonesia, Brazil, China and India).

Of course it would be difficult for a white girl to criticise non whites, that would not go down well, and the leaders of those countries would not take any notice anyway.

I think there is a lot of denial about climate change and people don't want to take responsibility.
I think she's a tall poppy (like, seriously, what was I doing at 16? Not trying to save the world and goofing around probably) and people feel threatened by that.
She's clearly quite smart and passionate - speaks beautifully in her second or third language, for example - and it's easier to hate on her rather than confront our own insecurities.
It's very sad - I wish our world leaders were all taking her and others like her seriously.

You have got this so right. One of the things that really made me laugh was when people were saying that she was reading from the paper because it was scripted by others. Of course she was, English isn’t her first language, talking in front of all those world leaders as an adult would make me nervous, couldn’t even begin to imagine what it would be like having Aspergers, being 16 and talking in another language to address such an important issue. I would have been clutching that piece of paper too. She’s a brave young lady, whether you agree with her stance or not, she had the guts to stand up for something far greater than herself in front of a lot of powerful people and make a speech. No matter where you stand on the climate change issue, her bravery to stand up for something she believes in should be admired.

This world can be so cruel. This gorgeous girl has aspergers so it's only a matter of time before some asshole picks on her for that. Good on her for standing up for her beliefs. She should be proud of herself ❤️
