Yes. Issues arising from neglect and abuse. I don't think ill ever be able to shake those shadows from my soul. I guess I'm half grateful though, it makes me the parent for my children that I wish I'd had as a child.
But no books, toys, photos etc. I haven't anything like that.

Same here. Like you, the way I parent is with honesty, love and kindness - nothing like my own childhood.

Me too, I left foster care with 2 bags of clothes, enough issues from my abuse to keep a therapist smiling and the determination to make sure my kids have a happy and healthy homelife

I have a pinecone that i painted when i was about 5, when i hold it, it takes me back to that moment, i remember being amazed at the colours, they were all fluro and i hadnt seen anything like that before. I also have a Troll with purple hair in a nurses outfit, my mum would never buy them, but when i went to hospital to get my tonsils out she bought one for me! Never loved anything so much! Lol

Some toys that my kids now play with. Mum kept stuff like reports and certificates from school, I scanned anything I was mildly interested in then chucked everything. I'm not very sentimental about stuff, although I like looking through it, it's not worth the space it takes up. I'm happy with photos/scanned copies of things.

Mum has my cabbage patch doll stashed somewhere but I still have my cabbage patch record. I still remember all the words to the songs! Got mine in 1985 too.

^I bought my daughter one when she was a toddler. I was hoping she would adore it like I did mine. She didn't care for it at all 😂
