For those taking their kids out, I’ve checked with my twins school and they require a certificate to say it’s essential they are out of school otherwise if their leave is noted as unacceptable. How are you going around this please?

Mines in preschool so the government has no say. I'm not sad about that.

They're making a decision about schools tonight so you may not need to worry.

We haven’t taken ours out yet but I have spoken to the school in case we decided too. They were perfectly understanding and said it would not be held against them, that the dept of Ed has given them guidelines on attendance during this time. This NSW.

Our school doesn't require a medical certificate unless your child is away for over 2 weeks.

I have no faith in the government’s ability to handle this. We are doing school at home for a while to help flatten the curve and increase the school’s ability to enforce social distance by decreasing numbers.

It is up to the government to do their best here, for their and our greater good as an economy. This is kind of like a competition, if we pull through well, it will be favourable, if we do bad, it will have lasting impacts. Scientists, government and many everyday people are doing their best all around the world, to combat this virus which is something that has not been seen in our lifetime. I agree with your approach to keep your child at home, but life isn’t so black and white and it’s important to also support your government, which I think you are actually doing by doing what you are doing, so thank you. We need solidarity, we really do. Everyone think about what they actually need, less is more and be kind to those around you at this anxious time.

Please note that in early childhood education we are implimenting many extra measures to keep the risk of infection as low as is humanly possible. We care about our children, parents and staff.

My DD's centre is implementing extra measures. I trust them. However, I don't trust other parents not to dose & dump their sick kids. The amount I've seen around town this week, coughing on everyone is disgusting.

I totally agree^

I trust my kids centre 100% but the other parents nope. I’m on a local Mums fb group and and I have quite often seen comments from mothers saying they dose their kid up with panadol/nurofen before they leave for daycare so it take effect before they get to the centre. I don’t know if any of these children attend my sons centre but I’m sure plenty of parents at my centre do it to.

Unless your child has a weakened immune system everyone should be following the advice from government. It annoys me that there are always people who “know better” no you do not.

The chief medical advisor knows better than anyone else in the country. I’d sooner listen to him than all the opinions on the internet.

I can see where she is coming from, there are a lot of so called expert people who know very little. I think the government is pretty understanding of parents keeping their kids home- including the chief health officer, and his deputy! They have said this, but they also cant say things straight down the line because the impacts on economy and the wider community are entwined and go beyond the overall health aspect, it’s a balancing game and constant compromise. I’m assuming there will be school closures, when? I was thinking after the holidays(WA), but now it’s looking sooner given the nature of this virus exponential growth.. so I can see parents saying “this is so anxiety inducing, what’s the difference between taking kids off school now rather than in a week or two if I’m responsible and doing it for the right reasons’. Being empathetic is also important- some people are doing all the right things, others are panicking and others aren’t taking it serious, it’s a tough time! Try

Trust our government who sell our country? Trust a man who is more worried about money than his people's health? Sorry but no. he doesn't have the guts to do the right thing instead of closing the boarder he let the virus in. Trust him never. this is his fault he had warning about corona months ago. Still let them in ou rd country and now our country is appalling

We are for now but we are taking it day by day. My oldest is in HS and he said there were lots of kids coughing. The school has stated anyone who is sick is to stay home but no one is taking it seriously. My youngest son’s school is all over it. They have sent several kids home from school, added extra soap and require the kids to wash any time they enter the classroom. Distancing is enforced. I am comfortable with him in school for now, not so much my high schooler.
That being said, we do have confirmed cases in our community and the boarding school has closed and sent everyone home. We are seeing how things develop over the weekend, there is a good chance they won’t go back next week.

I think you should phone the school and mention your concerns about this in the HS. I think speaking up in a rational way is a good thing and they are probably struggling, giving them a bit of a push will help them feel more empowered to clamp down on it.. as I imagine others are constantly pushing back or ignoring their requests.

ANSWER

I have been doing so But as Scott Morrison has said, they are keeping schools open as kids seem ‘immune’ and they are more worried about the economy and what will happen if they close schools and then parents are unable to work.
If you listen closely you can see it’s not really about the kids best interests, but the economy.
Do what you think is best at the time.

I agree. I guess the second part one could consider is, this is a battle for each countries economy...your children’s economy. If Australia somehow doesn’t get more massive debt and pull through miraculously unharmed, it would be very good for the economy in a world context, This is not likely in my opinion, but the economy is quite a massive part of our future and security long run
