Is it immoral to have a kid with a complete dick just because you want a kid or are 35 or 40 and haven't gotten a husband yet?

The grandmother at playgrpup said her daughter was 35 and this guy was "around" so she made a choice. The guy is "hopeless". But she noted our whole culture has changed and you can separate or be single so easily now. Then at clinic 3 more like that

It's a huge risk - his genetics are 50% of the child, he has the capacity to do some damage to them if he's a real dick, he has rights to them as well...
I'm telling my daughter 'be careful who you have kids with' constantly because so many of my friends and family have had messy divorces, terrible financial situations (like one guy gambled all their savings - twice!), abusive partners, stalker partners, access denied to the kids, having to co-parent with a bully, or a new-'stepmum' every other month. Those who didn't have kids with a jerk could get away cleaner and easier in the long run.

Agree totally with this. I am currently watching a friend go through split up with a sociopath. She knows she would have been better off being a single Mum from the start. Fortunately her child takes after her. Imagine the misery trying to bring up a child that inherits a complete dickhead fathers personality and behaviour. Choose the father carefully, even if you plan bringing up the child on your own. And consider that male children need good male role models, so how would you supply those needs. Mums father and brothers would be fine, but there doesn't seem to be much support from other men in society these days, which is probably why so many women end up choosing to parent alone.

Its a pretty shitty thing to do but desperate times lead to desperate measures. I guess she had a decision to make, albeit a poor one.

I remember when mine were babies thinking how wonderful they had a father who loves them and that his presence really made a positive difference. There are a lot of single parents who do amazing jobs and yes society has changed. I personally would not want to have a baby with someone I didn’t love or respect at some point.

I wouldn’t personally. Life can become difficult as the child gets older and it isn’t fair
