Theres pros and cons to both big and small gaps. Big age gap you can spend alot of one on one time in that first five years and not have to worry about them picking up bad habits from siblings. Kids don't always have a close bond, and you are getting one child out of the baby/toddler stage only to go back into it again and have to worry about a babies routine whilst trying to juggle sports and school drop offs and possibly having the baby impact weekend activities. Like you're not going to want to go bush walking if you have been up all night with a teething baby.

Small age gap and you get through the baby stage alot quicker but it is very hectic. You don't get much one on one time when they are young but they don't seem to care because they are quite happy with their siblings. They hit school one after the other and you don't have to revolve the older kids day around the younger ones routine, or vice versa.

It is good having the kids around the same stage at the same time.

I had 2 and 10 month gap with my first two and suprise twins 5 years after my second

The almost 3 year gap was absolutely perfect.

The 5 year gap only worked cos they were twins and had each other. They defiantly have a bond with my elder two but it’s different. It’s not a play/buddy relationship there’s a thread of the older ones being more caregiver siblings and always taking care of them
The closer in age kids are more partner in crime sort of bond.

I have 4.5 years between my first two. I had my son when my daughter was in kindy. I was able to spend lots of one on one time with each of them. That was a real positive for me. But, they do not and never did get along. I’m not sure if that’s because of the age gap or because they are boy/ girl or if it was a combination of both. I had another girl 2.5 years after my son and they were close up until they hit age 10/12. They have their good and bad days.

My hubby is the eldest of 4 boys. His next brother is 8 years younger with the youngest being 20 years younger. The reason he wanted our kids close in ages is because of the age gaps between him and his brothers. He is more of a father figure than brother. My own 3 kids are 2 years apart. I am not sure if it is a good gap as I had 3 under 5 at one point which I found hard.
