See I don’t understand the point of Black Friday in Australia. Everyone is so quick to say no to adapting other American ideas, why has Black Friday become such a big thing? BF is always the Friday after Thanksgiving, a very American holiday. When did retailers decide that they were going to hold sales here on this day? It’s just a random Friday in November.

For the record I am American. I have been in Australia for 8 years. I went Black Friday shopping once in the states and vowed to never do it again. The people were insane and the deals weren’t that good. But I am still curious how it caught on here.

Retailers are always looking for an opportunity to encourage spending and supporting a sale in the lead up to Christmas just helps keep revenue up.

That’s exactly it. Anything to promote a ‘sale’ and get consumers to indulge in a spend/sale whatever they name it. It’s enticing though
